Sunday afternoon we all visited husband’s Aunt V. She’s 97 now and doesn’t get out much unless it’s to visit a doctor.
She was excited to see my sister.
We talked a bit about her last stay in a rehab facility and how glad she is to be home again. She mentioned that she had called me and I hadn’t called her back.
“Did you leave a message?” I asked.
“No” she said. Doesn’t your phone tell you that I called?
“Only if I look,” I say…’and I rarely look.”
Husband gets out his smart phone and shows his Aunt. “She has one just like this,” he says, “But she’s not very good at using it.”
“Look,” he says, “I can post photos of the family on my Facebook page.
Then he shows her photos of her parents on their wedding day, his sister as a baby, groups of people from years ago. She recognizes many of them, hadn’t seen some of the pictures before, hadn’t seen others in many years.
At the end of the pictures she grins and said, “That thing is pretty good!”
She’s more in tune with technology than I am. Guess I’ll have to check my phone more often.

This little story just made my night. I love the picture of her checking out the phone 🙂
You don’t have to be obsessed with your phone/toy to get some use out of it…which is what my husband told me for years before I caved and got one! (It has a much better memory for lists than I have)

Awwww, I love Aunt Vi! She’s a smart cookie. Maybe you should get her a phone, and she could teach you a thing or two.

Yes she does. Though it’s getting more difficult for her.

Aunt Vi looks very perky. It’s good to see someone in a “facility” all dressed up for the day. She looks ready to meet the president — or the Queen of England!

She’s in her own apartment now. But when she was in rehab and could get around she did dress nicely to set herself apart for the ‘permanent’ residents. She was dressed to go to church the day we visited her.

Some of these seniors really do click with technology, and it’s a beautiful thing when they do — helps ’em get connected, and stay connected, with loved ones. Aunt V is amazing!

She’s sure learned to handle a lot of change in her 97 years.

Well at least she knows you are not ignoring her. It’s funny , most people don’t listen to their voice mails and just see the “missed calls”. And you say, did you get my message? No ,I just saw you called. Then you have to say it all over again. Lol

I don’t get why she doesn’t leave me a message but I guess I need to get better at checking the phone.
