There are these little birds that show up around here when winter is upon us. They’re cute, but I’m never happy to see them.
Hello hello! I’m HERE!
I’m always sad when they show up because they are definitive proof that summer is gone and that we’re facing the long dark months of winter. Yesterday the juncos arrived.
Right here under your nose!
I’m just not ready.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

We have Oregon Juncos – more brown with black head – and they’ve been showing up for two or three weeks now, but not yet in large groups.

Do yours only hang out around you during winter?

Pretty much so. I’ve been noticing how there are a few kinds of birds who are always around, but others who are seasonal.

Some people call those little beauties ‘snow birds’. 🙂

I haven’t seen any…… yet! But we’ve been having an unusually mild Fall.

I sure hope so. But since I retired and don’t have to drive in it it’s bound to be better than last year!

Maybe you’ll learn to love it as much as I do not that you don’t have to drive in it. 😀 Our woolly bear caterpillars are predicting a very mild winter.

They appeared here in SW Michigan last weekend. I think they’re adorable and hate me if you must, but I like winter.

I know. I’ve discussed it with Katie. She’s up for an adventure.

I know how you feel. Just as I like getting an extra hour of sleep tonight, I’m also sad because it means winter is coming. And even though I’m now in Utah, the fact that I’m no longer wearing shorts to work is a telling sign…. 😦

Today was gorgeous — warm and sunny. Too bad the “Fall Back” thing kicked in and our days are so short though. I’m with you, Dawn — not at all ready for ice and snow.

We never paid any attention to seeing those birds. We will keep our eyes open fur them.

I’m actually quite fond of juncos, but then again, I prefer winter over summer. I haven’t spotted any at my feeder yet this year…
