I did not invite all these other beautiful dogs to my park! I am supposed to be the supreme princess! The most beautiful sheltie around! It’s supposed to be all about me! Me me me me me!
Ahem.
I had to go to the groomer to get beautiful just for this party, and that’s not fair either. But I’ll stop complaining now.
Because actually it was pretty interesting. My dad even went! I mostly sat under the picnic table while he talked to some people that had two shelties. The three of us hung out together under the table. We got along just fine by ignoring each other.
In fact I was content to ignore all the other shelties but not my mama! Oh no, she had to go meet them all. I watched her sit down on the ground with some of them and pet them and tickle their tummies and I wasn’t jealous at all because I had my dad.
My mama didn’t even take very many pictures of me! Can you imagine that? She was busy taking pictures of all the other shelties. She kept saying things like “Wow, that’s a beautiful dog!” and ” oh look at that one!” You’d think I’d get a complex or something.
But I didn’t, because lots of people thought I was beautiful too, and offered me treats which I politely refused. Until my mama took me for a walk and I met one lady sitting on a blanket. There were dog treats on that blanket! Her dog Sadie hadn’t eaten them, so I scarfed them up. Always willing to help out you know. Then she gave me a big treat and I chopped it right down.
But then I did a bad thing.
Sadie came by and sniffed my butt and I turned around and nipped at her. My mama was mortified. And as our parents were pulling us apart I nipped at her again! Well! Sadie is only a puppy and my mama said I should have had better manners.
I was getting tired and hot by then and when we went back to daddy I nipped at another dog. So mama and daddy said that was quite enough and we went home. Mama says I have shown my true colors and now she knows to keep better watch on me.
Whatever that means.
I thought the party was interesting but I just got too warm and too tired and that made me cranky. A princess does not like to be sniffed so much. A princess is supposed to be kept cool and hydrated and well fed. I didn’t even have my princess pillow! I mean really, what were they thinking?
Anyway. I’m sorry I nipped at those dogs and I’ll try to be a better sheltie-citizen in the future. Meanwhile, I think all the dogs had a good time and I’m glad mama and daddy took me.
Time for a nap now.

Well you were surely the most beautiful sheltie there. Your subjects should have been admiring you from a distance. You are royalty after all.

There were some (many) really gorgeous dogs. Some big ones and some tiny ones. They were all beautiful.

Everyone who has any sense at all knows princesses need their space, and their naps. There’s only so much closeness that can be tolerated after all.

I know. I suppose there were other shelties there that weren’t that into being friendly, but I didn’t notice them.

Katie isn’t at all. But she doesn’t snap at other dogs, she just ignores them. So this was different.

What a wonderful collection of shelties! That Emily Ann has a very Katie-like smile. But Oh, Katie. You nipped at Sadie?!? That was the sort of thing the Cowboy might do. I hope your nap restored your usual good humor.

Emily Ann was a star! Her mom writes about her all the time on Facebook, so we all feel like we know her.

it is hard to be in competition with all those other shelties and at YOUR park – but you know – the more you do it – the easier it gets and the more friendly you become

Most of the time she’s just fine. I think she was tired and hot and getting grumpy. She wanted to go home so we did.

Oh, dear. Sometimes our best intentions don’t go according to plan, do they? It’s hard knowing just what our fur-kids will do when faced with different situations. I’m sure Katie had just had her fill of the entire meet-and-greet and was letting everybody know it! That said, how FUN — I’d have had a ball loving on all those beautiful Shelties!

I would have enjoyed staying longer to pet all the rest of the shelties that I didn’t get to….but she was ready to go home. And so, given she’s the princess in the family, we went home.

Was that the meet-up at White Lake or somewhere like that? I was supposed to go but didn’t because it was too hot! I LOVE how you said the Shelties “ignored each other” true Shelties I would say! Not a fan of other dogs, that’s how they roll lol. Also, Dakota ADORES sitting UNDER benches and picnic tables! He would have been in his element! Sometimes he isn’t the best “Sheltie Citizen” either…BOL!! Love that term by the way! DakotasDen

Yes, that was the meet-up. Someday in the fall perhaps we can meet there and Dakota can sit under a bench with Katie!

I debated. But it’s hot…and a long way. Though someday I hope to take her up there. This trip she”s not coming. She’s staying home with her dad so she can sleep on top of the air conditioning vent.

Thank you Dawn! Yes, Sasha came into my life on February 5th, 17 years after I lost my previous dog (spaniel). It’s been a learning experience for both of us!

Thanks for sharing! My sheltie Anna crossed the Rainbow Bridge a year ago and I still miss her so much. I am always happy to see the shelties on here. I may start a meet and greet for shelties in the future, in our area, when I am blessed with another sheltie.

Awwww. I’m sorry to hear about your Anna. I’m glad you enjoyed Katie’s story. She’s our 3rd sheltie and I still miss the previous 2 though it’s been years. Each one is so different.

That looked like a pawsome pawty. I think Ben and I would have gotten thrown out of the pawty fur yapping too much.
Sorry u nipped those other dogs, maybe they were just love nibbles?

You can never bark too much at a sheltie party. Trust us on this! 🙂 I like to think they were love nibbles but I doubt it. She was ticked off for sure.

Katie didn’t act too badly, she didn’t draw blood did she? Cole would disown me if I even took him to a German Shorthaired Pointer jamboree… after brawling with about 4 other dogs. Sigh.

Nope, no blood. She was just tired of it all and wanted to go home where she was the ONLY princess! I can’t see Cole brawling, but will take your word for it. No one ever believes me when I tell them Katie stories…but we moms know the truth about our babies.
