Katie here!
I am livid! And depressed. Oh man, I’m just all wound up because my mama cheated on me! Oh yes she did, and she can’t explain this one away either.
I looked up the definition of cheat, just to make sure I was accurate, and this is what the Urban Dictionary said: “Someone who is in a committed relationship and breaks the trust of his or her Katie-girl by getting physically or emotionally involved with another dog.”
OK, I edited the definition just a bit. But she still cheated.
What you say? You don’t think mama would ever do something like that? That she loves me with all her heart and I’m the most important dog in her whole world?
Well. I have proof.
Yesterday, at approximately 11 hundred hours a car drove up to our house. A nice lady (I remember her from visiting her farm last year) got out of the car and petted me and she smelled good and I liked her right away. (She’s a regular treat dispenser, ya know what I mean?)
I gave her a tour of my lake house and then she and mama went back outside and I wasn’t allowed to go with them. Huh! Something is up. But I didn’t see or hear anything so I waited expectantly. I figured I was due another treat.
Then mama came back inside and got her camera and I still didn’t get to go with her. That’s definitely a sign that something’s amiss. Usually I am the center of all her photography and if she’s not shooting beautiful me, then, I ask you, what is she taking pictures of?
But I heard the car drive away and my mama didn’t come back in the house, so I settled down to wait (not nap, people, wait!) by the door.
Eventually she came back and do you know what? She smelled like boy dogs! More than one boy dog! I think my mama is cheating on me with more than one dog! And these aren’t the harmless neighborhood dogs either! I know all their smells and she’s usually with me when they come around.
So…while she was sleeping last night I snuck on her laptop and found pictures! I have proof people! She went up the mountain without me (that part is just fine) and took the nice lady and her three boy dogs!
And then, the worst part is she brought them back to the house and they got to explore my back yard! And I didn’t even see them out there because I was waiting (not napping!) by the door on the other side of the house!
What do you think I should do? Should I kick my mama out of the house? Or should I go find a new mama and a new lake house with my own special bed and special dinner bowl and my own special food and treats and toys?
I need advice and I know you guys are just the ones to tell me what to do. You can comment here, but do it quick cause mama will be awake soon and you know she’s always on her computer. I don’t want her to find out she’s been caught.
Not yet anyway.
PS: Mama woke up. She says to go to this blog to read about the other point of view.

OK, Katie–is this Mama’s first time? I think a good pouting might get the message across. But let her know this is a warning. One more time and she (not you!) is outta’ here! Let me know if this works. If not, we’ll go to Plan B.

You are definitely owed an explanation, Miss Katie. Be calm. Listen carefully. Remember that pictures can be deceiving. Maybe these dogs owner wasn’t able to walk her pooches because of an injury or an appointment and was relying on your mama for help. I’m sure there’s a good explanation.

Katie says she isn’t in the listening mood. She’s in the bribe her with treats and a great walk mood. So that’s what we did. I think we’re OK now. Though not entirely sure.

I am really disappointed in Mama for zooming into that younger guy!

Well, it is true that the younger guy went home with his own mom and Katie got her mama back all to herself for the rest of the day and all day today. She’s still a little pouty though.

Give her some time, Katie, because good mamas are hard to find. She probably wasn’t really cheating – I mean, I’m sure the other lady that smelled good needed some help, and your mama is a good woman. And then, there’s the you never learned to fix your dinner or go buy your treats and things part, you know? She does come in handy for that.

Hmmm this is a tough call, is it possible Mama didn’t think you would want to hang out with a bunch of BOY dogs??? (and NOT Shelties at that!) Maybe because you are a Princess, those dogs weren’t worthy of your time? I would cut her some slack this time, but if you catch her with other Shelties………then…….she is in BIG TROUBLE! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

Exactly! We thought that the three boys would be overwhelming to a Princess so we kept her safe in her castle while they were roaming the countryside.

Katie, I Dallas know and sympathize — I’ve caught my mama cheating, too! It’s definitely NOT fair, is it? I hate when she comes home smelling like other dogs, even if they are distant relatives. Would you like a nice vacation in Central Illinois? I have a BIG backyard, and Mama wouldn’t cheat on you — she respects royalty, don’t you know?!

She says if I don’t shape up she’ll bail on me on our trip north. I guess I better snap to.

DearKatie, This is the treat lady, forgive your mother, she had your honor and reputation in mind. Nothing good could come from hanging out with three Redneck boys.

Katie says she’s not sure, maybe a little Redneck would be fun. It’s hard to be a Princess all the time ya know.

Oh Katie, I’m so sorry you are disappointed in your mama. I don’t blame you. Jealousy is such a hard emotion to deal with and you have good cause to feel jealous. I hope you’ll feel reassured that those dogs are not coming to live with you. That would be the ultimate betrayal. So don’t even think about that. Just be glad they are gone. I know from reading your mom’s blog and from her allowing you to post your own words, that she loves you dearly. No other dog will ever replace you in her heart.

She’s considering giving me a break. She allowed me to take her on a long walk this afternoon. And feed her dinner. So we might be OK after all. As long as I don’t stray again.
