Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

She is everywhere

In memory of my mom. She would have loved this Alabama spring.

Wisteria, in bloom all over. It’s invasive, but oh so beautiful.

Dogwood, such a sign of spring.

Redbud, crazy fushia glowing all through the woods.

There’s a whole bank of crowfoot violets at the end of her street.

I see her everywhere, but nowhere as clear as in her beloved flowers and birds near her home on the lake.

Feeding her ducks.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  2. Wonderful photos in memory of your mom. So What am amazing palette of spring color. How fortunate you are to have those memories.

When Mom and I lived in Washington we would take drives in the spring to see the blooming dogwood, magnolia, lilac…and in the fall we would go to the mountains and enjoy the fall color. Good memory.

  3. Lovely! My mum loved flowers too. You’re so much further ahead than us, here we still have snow on the ground.

    • I’m so glad we don’t have snow here Helen! It’s pretty in January but then I’m ready for it to be gone. I’m lucky I have this place to retreat to when winter gets long.

    • I think the further north you live the more you anticipate and appreciate spring. I used to tell my mom (who lived here in Alabama) that she had no idea how exciting spring was because she got so much spring so early. She disagreed and said she did too appreciate it, maybe more than when she lived in the north, because she knew how lucky she was to be somewhere warmer.

  6. Dawn, I’m so grateful for your beautiful spring flowers. We’re still cold here, but I know spring will come … eventually. So hard to wait though!

  7. Thank you for the respite from winter. I too love early spring when fresh blooms show so clearly against the winter’s dead-fall and bleached leaves. So full of hope.

    • Yes they are. Up in Michigan my favorite month is usually May, before the garden starts to fail and the deer eat all the blossoms. There’s so much potential. Down here in Alabama I have to say I’m liking March pretty well!
