I’m too old for this kind of stuff.
I came back to Michigan in mid-July and went to the grocery store to stock up the pantry. What should have been a 15 minute trip turned into an hour because while I was out of town they rearranged the store. All of it.
Why are there so many kinds of tomatoes?
I used to be able to shop the produce and the organic section and pretty much scoot out of the store. Now they’ve integrated the organic stuff into the regular stuff. Which made everything have to shift, but they didn’t just shift stuff, they moved a whole lot of it clear across the store.
What the heck is ‘bronze cut?’ I never saw this before.
It’s like they deliberately moved things so that you have to go up and down every row to find anything. And you can’t mindlessly wander the aisles because you’ll miss something important. I think it’s a conspiracy to get you to buy more stuff.
Pickles….so many pickles! And when I find one I like why is it not there the next time?
It takes a lot of work to do grocery shopping now. I had to ask a clerk where the butter had gone. He laughed and pointed to the other side of the store. But the up side of all of this is that I noticed a lot of interesting stuff that I knew nothing about while I was looking for eggs.
The greeting cards were moved too, so I ran across them accidentally. It was mom’s birthday last weekend and it’s been enough years since she died now that I could look at all the pink cards without tearing up.

After a couple weeks of shopping I can sort of get around now. But I figure by the time I really know where things are they’ll change it again.
Change is hard.

There’s only one thing worse than the constant rearranging they do. It’s when they decide to stop carrying a product I use because their computers tell them it’s not selling well enough. I’ve changed stores a couple of times in the past because of it, although, for a while, I was having to visit two stores to get what I wanted. Right now, I have the perfect store. We’ll see how long it lasts.

Your rant is well-deserved. I my grocery store moves stuff around from week to week. It’s annoying, although they haven’t done major moves (so far).
I shop two stores anyway because one has better quality seafood and poultry. It’s not the grocery game for nothing.

I really don’t want to shop two stores…though sometimes I need to. Mostly for vegan recipes that have things my regular store doesn’t carry.

Bronze cut pasta is the best kind to buy! My grocery store rearranged and handed out ‘road maps’ to all their customers as we walked in the store. I think they wanted us to buy more: aimlessly wandering the aisles and throwing things in our cart. Change IS hard.

This is the second time they’ve ‘remodeled’ since they built the store, maybe 10 years ago. I’m glad to have a store only 4 miles away (it used to be closer to 10), but it still seems new to me and I didn’t think they needed to remodel the first time they did it. That time was worse for me because I was here throughout the changes. Every time I went in there was another section that was moved, sometimes not to it’s final destination. They gave us maps each time, but it was a mess. At least this time it was all done while I was gone. So it is what it is and I just have to figure it out again.
The concept of putting the organic stuff in with other stuff might be fine…it might make more people see what’s available…but it’s really annoying to have to look for EVERYTHING.

I totally agree with you and hate whenever stores rearrange their shelves. It’s clearly a way to force us to buy more stuff, simply by exposing us to more, but it’s really irritating when you know exactly what you want and then have to spend a lot of time finding it.

I think so too. Though I did see some neat stuff that I had no idea they had, found by looking for the normal stuff I buy each week. And yes I probably will buy more stuff. I’m horrible about self control at the grocery store.

They totally DO do this, Dawn! I heard a TV report on Costco’s deliberately moving stuff around so they can keep shoppers inside the store longer (as they wander up and down the aisles looking for stuff). Our Walmart is doing the same thing right now, disguised in an attempt to re-do the flooring. Sigh. I guess they think all of us need personal shoppers nowadays!

I don’t know if this was deliberate to just keep us there longer, but it’s definitely deliberate to dismantle he organic section of the store and spread it out throughout the entire place. Which is really annoying. There’s an organic grocery store but it’s at least 45 minutes away and not worth driving all the way there. Still, if there was one closer I’d just shop there instead of trying to find the organic stuff now hidden among the rest of the stuff.

I used to mumble and moan because all of the organic stuff was off by itself in one aisle … now that my grocery store has inter-mixed all of it with all of the non-organic food of the same type, I’m still grumbling. Now I grumble because I now DO want all of the organic food together all by itself because now that’s mostly what I buy. There’s just no pleasing me! Still, I do kind of like it that organic food has now become “real” food and isn’t hidden off in some corner all by itself.
