Trent, over at his blog trentsworldblog has decided that we could all use a smile, so he has resurrected his weekly smile post in which he invites us all to post each week about something that has made us smile, and then link back to him.
I think he’ll post a recap, but I need to go back and read the instructions (you’ll find those at his Weekly Smile blog).
As I sit watching the horrific news out of Pittsburgh this morning I have to admit I was feeling guilty for feeling good after my short trip to northern Michigan.
For me going into the woods is like living on my own personal private island. No TV, no email, maybe a bit of blog producing, but that’s all about looking through images I’ve just taken and then letting the fingers do their thing.
No stress there. Usually no tears.
And yet the world carries on even while I’m not noticing. Pipe bombs get mailed. Mass shootings happen. Candidates snipe at each other. No one tells a complete truth.
Who even knows what the truth is anymore.
As Carol says in her latest post, we’re all probably overloaded. By everything.
So I think Trent’s idea is wonderful. Let’s look for at least one thing that has made us smile this week.
For me, it was being in the north wandering among the last bit of fading color. I was only there for a little more than one day, and it was drizzling rain most of the time.
Still. In the last few minutes before I climbed back in the car to head home the sun burned through a layer of cloud and the woods glowed.
It was just for a moment.
But it made me smile.

A few days off of the grid sounds very nice right now.. And it does look pretty. I’m sure if I went out in the woods I could find some pretty corners, even in this sort of blah year. There isn’t a lot we can do about all of the screwed up things happening in the world today, but perhaps spreading a smile, trying to reach out and such might help a little. After that, we also need to vote, even when we don’t like the choices.

Luckily in our district we have some clear choices. I don’t know how it will turn out but I’m hopeful.

It made us feel bad to read the jerk who mailed the pipe bombs lived in my Nati City for a short time. We are seeing vehicles plastered with political signs and nasty things toward women often here, so yes right now I would love to become a pioneer and live in your beautiful woods. It looks like a golden rain forest.
Oh like above said VOTE.

Yes we must all vote! I hope your neighborhood begins to change for the better after Nov 6. I guess that’s probably a lot to hope for, but I do hope change happens.

Your wonderful photos made me smile, as did walking through the leaves in my yard a few minutes ago. Thank you. And thank you for the mention.

Such beautiful images in a world filled with less than beauty. Thank you for reminding us that it still exists

It always exists but sometimes we have to work harder to find it.

How funny to see a one way sign in a wood – it did prompt a smile.
The news does seem more and more shocking – I half wish I had the strength not to read it, although I know that’s not the answer. I hadn’t heard of the anything-goes site where the attacker had been posting but it made me feel glad that WordPress is a thoughtful place.

I think the sign is part of a cross country ski trail…so that is one way in the winter. Just to be me I walked it backward. Cause I could. 🙂 I never heard of the attacker’s site either. Sounds like there’s a lot of really hateful stuff there though.

Great idea — we could all use an “excuse” to smile in spite of problems and ill-will. These are simply lovely, Dawn.

I was thinking of you when it was cold and windy and rainy as we are heading toward winter. I was guessing you were enjoying spring and I was sort of envious, but then I reminded myself that you’ve already just gotten through winter and it’s not like you have great weather all the time. You don’t do you? LOL!
