The day before the midterm elections feels stressful. I feel like I can’t turn the TV on, can’t check social media. Too much conflict, too much negativity.
On my way home from an early morning run to the grocery I noticed dramatic clouds. And me with no camera.
I hurried home, but the drama was gone by the time I unloaded and put away the groceries.
Still, the sky was interesting. And I was restless.
So off I went, camera in my lap, to see what I might see. Sure it would never be the extraordinary sky I saw earlier. But you never know what you’ll find.
At first I was disappointed, mostly muddy grey skies, not the dramatic navy blue ribbons I’d seen before.
But when I got out of the car on a dirt road to grab a shot of a barn I saw the whole sky above me and actually said out loud – “Wow!”
And that inspired me to keep looking. And you know me…
…looking for barns amid wild skies makes me smile.
What made you smile lately?

“Sky watching” is often very rewarding. Most of my best “atmospheric” sky pictures are actually phone photos, not photos taken with me real camera. Very nice!

I had my phone and almost turned around at a certain point to capture a really spectacular sky. But sometimes my phone doesn’t do justice so I went home to get my camera.

I am forever looking at the sky, so this post made me smile, too. Those clouds that made you say, ‘wow’….they are gorgeous! I love when they are all streaky like that. I don’t know what you saw before, but you for sure captured some beauties, Dawn.

Before there was sun shining from the south against some tamarack trees, and black and navy clouds behind them. Was spectacular. By the time I got out with the camera there was virtually no sun to highlight anything.

Lovely lovely lovely!
My sister said a while back, “I sent in my ballot! So everyone can stop talking about the elections now!” I feel the same way. And I feel like you do, too: I have friends who are planning news-watching binges for this afternoon/evening and I can’t imagine why–results will be the same in the morning whether they watch or not. I’m hoping there’s a movie or two nearby that I want to see and I’ll go sit in a theater to avoid the temptation of going into Facebook where there is likely to be a morass of angst. And will likely stay away today, and will think about it for tomorrow, too. Thanks for the photos to remind me that there’s plenty of beauty in the world no matter what.

Just home from canvassing this election day. Going to our candidates watch party tonight. Close race. Doubt they will be able to call it until very late.

My candidate won for House of Rep, in a district that has been democrat since 2000. Against all odds. It was a perfect storm. She is a fresh face, with military background, who graduated from Michigan State which is in the district, and it was the students of MSU that put her over the top by 2500 votes. It was a nail biting evening.

Wow! Smile? Today? Pleasant customers in my bookstore … my husband coming in the door … my dog curled up in her chair.

Wow! This made me smile. 🙂 Other things include my husband, my crazy cats, and probably at least a hundred things more.

If we slow down and think about it we all have lots of things to smile about every day.
