What you say? No one enjoys snow removal?
Well, on a pretty morning, under bluing skies, with fluffy white poofs of snow hanging on the spruce trees and white birch glowing, being outside for any reason is just about perfect.
And blowing snow out of the driveway is sort of peaceful. There’s a rhythm to it, up and down, back and forth. Mindful more than mindless, as I try not to spray snow and perhaps stones on my husband’s truck parked in front of the house.
There’s a beginning, a middle and an end which lends itself to a sense of order. You can see progress. You can get as creative or as efficient as you want. Sometimes creative is efficient.
So I cleaned up the driveway, and then, since I was already dressed for it, Katie and I went out to explore the back yard.
We had a great time running around and looking for pretty stuff. Five inches of snow is the perfect amount for a sheltie to bury her head searching for treasure.
I always wonder what she thinks she’s going to find under there. Apparently it’s something wonderful.
The yard was so pretty it was hard to go back inside.
But Katie felt that since she had posed for me several times and since I hadn’t thought to bring any treats outside with me, well, we should probably head back to the house.
So we did, but not without one last look back at the yard, dressed in it’s winter finery.
Almost makes staying north all winter worth it.
Almost.

This is what I think of snow in winter. So pretty. I suppose your place is away from the city that snow comes naturally white. Katie in tow makes it for a perfect walk. How did the walkway turn out with the blower?

It IS beautiful, and yes we are outside the city, so it stays pretty for quite awhile. Katie LOVES snow. The driveway cleans up pretty nice. It’s black, and when the sun shines on it, if it’s been even badly cleaned up, it melts pretty clean away. As long as I get it pretty clean it all works out.

I do love the beauty of the snow, and when I was younger, I loved walking in it as it fell, especially when the flakes were large. Then it melts a bit and freezes again and walking in it becomes treacherous or difficult at the least, and I begin to feel trapped. Even if I have nowhere I want to go, I don’t like the feeling that I shouldn’t.

For me, not having anywhere to go makes me love the snow more…because I don’t have to be afraid of it. Today was a holiday so lots of people are home and can enjoy it without having to commute…that made it even more perfect.

I’ve always had an issue when I feel I “can’t” go anywhere – even if there’s nowhere I really want to go. But here, sometimes even getting to the bigger town down the road for groceries can be a challenge, and getting up to see my daughter or south to see my son is major. Later this week, I’m leaving it in the hands of the universe and going south to get my fix of time with my son and time on the beach. Holding my breath that the weather cooperates.

New fallen snow is so peaceful. I love how it muffles sound and changes the light, especially in the morning. Your images capture that beautifully. But, like you, I’m done with it this winter. We’ve had so much snow, there’s now where left to put it. I’m thankful for daylight lasting longer now and on sunny days you can almost feel some warmth. It feels hopeful.

I love morning light no matter what the season. I think I have enough snow pictures for this year…looking forward to a change.

Now *this* is the kind of winter day that’s practically perfect! Sadly, we haven’t seen many of them. Instead, we get frozen precipitation, gray skies, howling winds, sub-zero temperatures. All the dreadful things Dallas and I really dislike!

We’ve had a couple days this winter of pretty snow. Most of the really bad stuff has gone south of us…I guess to you! We had a lot of cold, but not having to go anywhere really makes that not so bad. We did lose 3 rehearsals because the schools have been closed so much. We have a concert next Sunday.

Ours is on March 3. Somehow, the music feels easier this time (maybe I’m getting more proficient?!?) Hope yours goes well!

Yikes, and I suspect you’ve got lots of woodwind runs, too! We’re doing a tribute to outer space on the moon landing’s 50th anniversary, complete with audio-visuals. I’m looking forward to it!

Yes it is a pretty long driveway, and it curves up there near the house to a really big parking area. But I guess if I’m going to clear snow I might as well go big! We do the neighbor’s driveway too…so sometimes it does get a bit much.

We are lucky that we have such a beautiful backyard. We have 1.5 acres here, and a bunch of trees along the back and up most of the sides. It’s taken a lot of years though, hardly anything here when we moved in 25 years ago.

It’s all so beautiful. I love that shot of Katie looking for treasure under the snow and her face afterwards. 🙂
We’ve had pretty much nothing but rain here. Rumor has it that we might get a lot of heavy snow very quickly tomorrow morning but it will change over to heavy rain within a few hours. I might get an hour of snow time out of it, if I’m quick enough.

It does look beautiful. As long as it doesn’t get in the way of life it’s ok. We had an early dismissal in school today because of the snow coming. Turned out to be about 3 inches- no big deal. Tomorrow temps near 50. That is some long driveway!!
