Following the recent theme of toys…Katie and I thought we’d share some of hers. Well. Not really share; I’m not sure she’d be good at sharing being an only dog. But she has a basket full of toys, all of which she has loved at different times. She mostly loves whatever is the new toy. But some are her favorites all the time. Like Mister Froggy whose yellow belly you see in the basket above. And she’s pretty psyched about her frisbee too. But her all time all the time can’t resist toy is her small tennis ball. If she can find it (it’s frequently under some piece of furniture) she will drop it at the feet of anyone not payng enough attention to her.
Today I didn’t have to work and I have to say that I didn’t get much done around here either. It was sort of a Katie free for all day, mostly playing fetch the ball, fetch the froggy, fetch the doggie…that would be me fetching…not her. If the toy gets flung into a scary place, say under the desk, or under a chair she will plop herself down and look expectantly at you until you give up and just get her the toy. Really I don’t think she needs anymore doggie training, she is smart enough as it is. I took a picture of her with her ball today that reminds me of the picture Sara took of Oreo:

So I have to go…she wants to play! We’ve already taken a trip to the pet supply store where we practiced heeling with distractions. She did so so. We’ve thrown the ball for what seems like hours. You’d think she’d be tired, but no, right now she’s growling at a possum that is eating birdseed outside her back door. Possum doesn’t seem to be intimidated, so I’ll distract her with a toy. Time to go. As Katie would say, we’ve got to go Go GO GO!!

LOL, it’s so funny to see Shelties of all shapes, sizes, colors and in different locations all act the same! Heidi does the SAME THINGS with her balls! It rolls under the couch and Heidi stares at it…ad then stares at me…and then barks! Needless to say, the 6 weeks Ive been out of work (when Ive been home and not in the hospital) Heidi has kept me plenty busy with her ball and toys. She loves her squeeky tennis ball, but L-O-V-E-S her planet dog ball!!
Thanks for posting about your girls toys…I LOVE reading about other toy-crazy Shelties out there!!
Take care, and Sheltie Hugs,
Sheltie-Mom Jenn, Heidi and Shelby

Glad to see I’m not the only one with an overflowing basket! The planet dog ball in the photo I took yesterday, I had to retrieve from under the vanity in the bathroom.

I bet she loved the attention today. Why is it the more you do something the more the want to do it?
Ludo’s not that ball obsessed. He will bring a toy and hit you with it but he hasn’t developed the fixed stare yet.

I don’t really understand Katie’s or Oreo’s ball obsession….I don’t mind playing a little fetch inside (never interested outside) but I’d really rather play tug or chase games or play-bite at your hands/fingers games (that’s when I channel my inner cat!).

We have plenty of toys, too but we only love the ones that make squeaky noises… it took a while for our Ma to work that one out, she said she spent a fortune on doggie toys and all we do is look at her and then go back to chewing on our bones.

Katie has just the sweetest face and love her markings. Her baskets look “almost as big as Reilly’s and he has three of them!!!! They are in different places though, he has basement toys, outside toys and inside toys. Chuckles – saw a thing on the news the other day that said the recession has hit the ‘pet’ area that much…people still buy alot for their furry buddies. I did also see though that they have set up a doggy food bank in florida and a lot of elderly people and homeless people who have pets are struggling to feed them, so they can go there and get free food for their pets.

Yes I think we need to be aware of our neighbors and friends and parents of friends, to make sure they are able to feed their pets so that they don’t have to give them up. Instead of another squeaky toy for our own spoiled furkids we might buy some pet food for someone that is struggling.
