Change Is Hard

Bad news everywhere

I started reading blogs this morning, stopping at Jane’s blog where she lamented that the bad news in the world came up free on the newspaper sites, but the good news was only available with a paid subscription.  I laughed at that and continued on.

Poor Faith had to go to the vet because she has an ouchy spot on her tummy and we are hoping it’s nothing serious.  Then Miley who is having laser and ultrasound therapy appears to be getting worse.  And Misty who is just the sweetest thing ever isn’t happy anymore and seems to be in pain, so she’s on her way to the vet too.  And the guys down in the Florida Keys are mourning the loss of their Grand-Paw and have posted a moving tribute to their Dog-Dad’s father.  Riley’s Mom who has been ill since last December is having even more surgery this week.    Mika, who’s Mama has already endured too much heartache was hit by a car today and is at the vet with crushed legs.  And to top it off last night I stopped at Huskee & Hershey’s site and saw a picture and story about a dog that was killed on the streets of Singapore by it’s owner…and no one stopped the man.  No sleeping for me last night with the image of that poor pup sliding in and out of my dreams.

After all that I just stopped reading.  Way too many dogs and people suffering today.  I’m giving thanks because I’m lucky that right now there are no calamities going on in my life.  And I will keep all those worried parents and furkids in my thoughts, sending them cyber hugs and healing thoughts.

Hope you will too.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Thanks Dawn. It does seem to be a bad day in blogland today.

Misty got some meds late this morning, and will have her ultrasound tomorrow. You’ll see in our tricky t-day video tomorrow, that even though she may not be feeling well, she still is willing to eat treats! Always a good sign.

Let’s hope tomorrow is a better day for everyone.

I am sincerely hoping that by tomorrow we have all doggies and people having much better days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. About the same time that we adopted Shasta, there was a dog brought in to the pound because her master had stabbed her repeatedly. She bit him as he was stabbing her but there was no discussion of her being a bad dog. She had been treated by a local vet, hospitalized for awhile, and had just been released for adoption. Two weeks later, we met the man and the dog at our local dog training center; both are very happy to have each other, and she really is a lovely dog. And why did her original master stab her? Because he was an adult male living with his mother who said he couldn’t keep the dog. I think a very unstable adult male.
I don’t deal well with bad things happening to animals. We recently watched Hachi, a Dog’s Tale – a very nice story, but I cried and after the movie had a heart-to-heart with our girls. I told them if something happens to us, go find a new happy home. Don’t get carried away with your devotion!

  6. That’s the bad thing about knowing so many dog people–dogs get old and ill and injured and die. The up side is–we know so many dog people! And get to know so many dogs that we could never afford to have as our own. Some days are harder, but more days (I think) are much better.

  7. Meanwhile, at work I’ve been reading bad news from the 17th century: this week, a scaffold speech from an English nonconformist, and a narrative by a French Protestant about his sufferings as a galley slave and in a dungeon. I’ll spare you the details except to mention that the latter went nearly two years without a change of clothes.

Best wishes for the health of all your human and canine friends!

  8. You can’t have a rainbow, if you don’t have the rain. We are okay, honest collie. We have expected this to happen for some time.

As we watch the herricane forcasts, we keep noting the storms are swinging into the Atlantic. That makes us happy. Less people will be impacted. So there is some good news out there.
