Some of you know that when I’m out with the dog and the stars are hanging bright I look to the sky for my Mom and Dad. For me Dad is the big dipper, Mom is Orion’s belt. Sometimes during the year they are both there in the sky together, Dad to the north, Mom to the south. But during the summer months Orion’s constellation swings too far south for me to see, and sometimes I can’t see the big dipper either.
I smiled this morning when Katie and I went out in the predawn hours and I saw both constellations shining down on us. I was glad to see them together again; it was totally appropriate. Today is their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary.
Happy anniversary. I miss you.

How nice that you could have a morning chat with your parents on their anniversary! Had they met Katie before this morning?

Katie came along after they were gone. But I do remember taking her out one winter night when she was a puppy, the stars were so bright, and Mom and Dad were right there. I reminded them about Bonnie (our old dog who died at 15 and whom they knew) and presented Katie to them. They approved.

Pawsome story. Dog Dad said Orion was his favorite as a child as he could quickly identify it. Now he equates Orion with herricane season really starting to get active. We walk early in the morning when most people are asleep and it is very dark outside. During our mid-August walks, Orion starts to rise in the sky. We did a post about Orion Rising back in August 2008.
