Hey everybody, it’s me, Penny!

Guess what? Mom finally took me to my park! She’s always saying we’re going to go to a park, or have an adventure and then stuff happens and I end up lolling around the house all day.

Why the closest thing to an adventure around here is sleeping out back in her tent. Which I’m not at all sure I like yet.

Mom says to give it time, but geeze, Dad’s sleeping in air conditioning, on a bed. I don’t know why I have to be out there in the steaming warm night, sleeping on the ground with scary sounds just outside my window with Mom, just because she’s crazy.

Anyway.
Mom’s been working on this photo challenge, which has something to do with four seasons and she takes me along when she’s doing that.

I like going to the woods now. In the beginning when I was just a baby I was sort of scared of the big trees, especially if the wind was blowing and there were all sorts of noises and leaves blowing around and stuff.

But now I’m a big girl, and I’ve figured out there are really cool smells out there in the woods! So today when Mom said we were going to go to my park (yes I have a park now that is named after me!), I got all excited.

It’s not very far away and we got there early in the morning when it would still be relatively cool. Mom unloaded me and off we went, my nose to the ground and Mom trailing along behind.

But before we got to the top of the first hill Mom pulled me up and said we had to go home and look for something called bug spray. Mom said she was an idiot for not thinking of that sooner and no way was she going any further swatting at clouds of mosquitoes.

I was a bit upset, but back in the car I went and we drove home where mom sprayed herself liberally and then used a doggie bug spray on my back and tummy, and put some in her hand and rubbed it on my face and ears.

Then off to the park (again!) we went! I was a little confused, but trotted right off, nose to the ground. We went up and down hills and through meadows and past wildflowers and ripening berries.

Mom stopped for a lot of pictures that were not me and I was OK with that, as long as I got my fair share of photographic attention.

Because those come with treats, you know.

Anyway by the time we headed back to the car mom was sweating through her cloths and I was pretty warm too. It was only 73 F, (22.7C) but it felt a lot hotter!

Mom made sure I got lots of drinks. All I had to do was look at her and she pulled my water right out of her pack. She carries more stuff for me than for her when we go on adventures! That’s cause I tip well.

Mom said I did really good this morning following directions while she got her summer shots for her challenge. She says she’s not showing those to you yet..she still has to get fall, and then she’ll tell you all about it.

Mom and I are an artistic team, and I’m an excellent model. I personally think she should set me up with a 401K and vacation days. It seems only fair as I’m doing all the work.

What do you think? You can leave me your opinions and suggestions in the comments. And just for the record, I get more comments on my posts than any that mom writes. Just more evidence of my value as an employee. Maybe I should negotiate for health insurance too.

Hi, Penny! Thank you for sharing your big adventure! I know you are pleased to have your own park. Yes, you are a beautiful model for your mom. Sending you a gentle pat. 💕
Dawn – you caught Penny rolling her eyes. That shot is priceless! 😊

Hi Ms. Denise! Mom thinks that’s a cute shot too! We were in the tent and there was a noise on top of the tent and I was really interested in what was up there!

Oh, Penny…the eye roll shot, the butt shot, the action shot that the camera took all by itself…! I would definitely negotiate for more treats!
And just between you and me, I don’t like camping, either. A soft bed with A/C and all is well in my world.

Well Ms Lois, for some reason my mom likes camping and I’m trying to make her happy but it’s very possible I am not a camping kind of girl.

Well, I DO like an adventure, Ms. Helen. I guess I can try a little longer to sleep all the way through the night in the tent. Unless those deer come around again with their noisy snorting. That sort of behavior is uncalled for! So obviously I need to tell them off.

Penny, you are too cute for words!! And I know you’re not kidding about the benefits that should come with your status as photography model! But when you consider the perks of being “fur-daughter,” you’ve gotta admit that’s better than being an employee. Love the photo of your side-eye, and I’m most impressed at how grown-up you’re becoming. No way would Monk sit still in a park without me on the other end of his leash, holding tight, lest he see a squirrel. Or a rabbit. Drat, puppy school didn’t teach him to Stay.

Oh Ms. Debbie. I’m not good at ‘stay!” in school either. But out in the woods I’m a little unnerved and want to stay close to mom so I’m not moving a hair on my little head until she says “COME!” plus…there’s treats.

Yes, Ms. Terri. I try to be a good girl, but sometimes there’s just SO MUCH going on that I can’t help it. But I’m learning to control myself more and more each day.

Penny, your mom is almost as smart as you are, really close! So just look all the stuff you found and saw and sniffed on this outing. That would not have happened had you been snookered up inside your house. So, sometimes there are things that bug you about an outing and sometimes there are WONDERFUL things about an outing. I vote for the WONDERFUL things. The tent maybe is one of those weird things that doesn’t make much sense. Trust your mom. She’s almost as smart as you are!

Well Ms Ann, I guess I’ll trust mom more. If she’s smart and all. And she DOES know more about camping than me right now. So I’ll keep trying to like the tent, at least for the rest of this summer. No guarantees about next year!

You’re a doll, Penny, and it’s good of you to give your mom time to photograph OTHER pretty things in the world, even though you can’t figure out why she would want to. Sunny isn’t sure about that, either, by the way.

Yes, Ms. Pamela, I’m trying to give mom some leeway when we’re out on adventures, cause she lets me sniff and roam pretty much where I want to, as long as it’s not further than the end of my 6 foot leash anyway.

You sure are a pretty pup Penny and my favorite picture is the featured image of you with the moss, very striking. I laughed that you have more trappings than Mom does. 🙂 I only went camping once and it rained … I think it’ll grow on you after awhile. At least there are no cicadas to scare you, just fireflies in a jar lighting up the tent.

Well Mom says it almost always rains at least one day of a camping trip. So I have to be prepared, she says, to spend some time inside the tent, or in the car, or just getting wet. I don’t know if I like that idea.

The shots are all beautiful and yes, the ones with you in it, more so!
You look marvellous by the moss. It really makes you stand out!
No fun to have to deal with skeeters!

I’m not at all sure, Ms. Dale, that I’m going to like camping. The last two times mom tried to take me out to the tent in our yard I protested so much she brought me back in to sleep with my dad.

Boy it’s hard to imagine why mom would want to photograph anything except me, isn’t it! But mom is fickle like that. My sister Katie warned me about all the time I’d have to wait for mom to hurry up and catch up on our walks. But I’m not putting up with too much lagging, no siree! I whine and pull on my leash and let her know that’s enough!

i love the way you tell the story from dogs side. I had a blue heeler and lost him after 14 years, he was so beautiful. Now we have a rescue dog that was badly beaten and it was so hard to get him to trust us. I can’t understand how people can be so cruel to them.

Awwww, I’m so sorry you lost your pup after 14 years. My mom and dad lost their Katie-girl after 15.5 years and mom still cries about it, even when I’m right there licking her face. She says I am a very sensitive girl. (Don’t tell her I just like to lick salty tears!) I hope your rescue will begin to trust you soon, I feel so bad for all the doggies out there that aren’t being spoiled like they should be.
Thanks for stopping by, I’m sending hugs to your dog!
