Change Is Hard

Here's Daisy

Essex and Deacon’s dad asked us to show you a picture of Daisy, our very first sheltie.  She was such a good girl when I met her while dating my husband.  She didn’t get on the furniture, sleep on the bed or bark too much.  She loved to fetch the tennis ball for as long as you were willing to throw it.  Then her daddy and I got married and she moved into my home.  I spoiled her and by the time she died a year or so later she  enjoyed snuggling on the bed with me whenever daddy wasn’t around.  She also learned about people food at my wedding shower when guests thought she was cute.  Poor girl, she was just getting used to being spoiled when she died of a blood illness.  No sheltie of ours since has had any concept about staying off the furniture or the bed.  Wonder why?  LOL!

This is Daisy, running in our backyard shortly after we got married in 1990.  I haven’t found many pictures of her, though in this one she’s smiling, like she always did when running around the yard.

Then there’s Katie.  We’re still working on “roll over.”  She will now do it while I’m slightly away from her.  I don’t have to lure anymore.  But she’s sneaky.  While I was messing with the camera, trying to figure out how to make it convert to video, she got up on her hind legs and stole the rest of the “good” treats off of the desk.  Guess she was tired of having to work for them!  So far I have a few fuzzy still photos of her rolling over.  If I figure out how to use the video, then figure out how to upload it, you’ll see the trick next Tricky-T day!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Shelties have that way of reserving space in your heart and even when they depart they ALWAYS leave it open for the next one. My first sheltie lived to 17 and she was a black and white names Beezy, my second was Bonnie a blue merle that looked a lot like Ludo. Sadly I had to pass her on to another heart when we went to live in Italy but she is so loved by her mom and dad….and now there is Reilly 🙂

Didn’t bark much? Are you sure she was a sheltie?

  5. They seem to want to get on things don’t they? I’ve never know a dog want to sit on furniture as much as Ludo, he gets on the dining room chairs as well!
    Daisy was beautiful!

  6. Aww! She looks like a such a happy girl. Isn’t it funny how few pictures we have of our previous pets in comparison with what we take now? My husband was just saying the other day that he sure was grateful that he wasn’t buying film for me to take pictures of the new puppy. He said it would have cost us a small fortune at the rate I’m going (she’s only been here a week and a half). LOL I think he’s right. But now looking back I only have a handful of pictures of my first Sheltie, Chelsea. I sure wish I’d have had the digital camera back then, so that I had more photos of her now.

  7. That is an awsome photo and story. Both Essex & Deacon get up on the couch. I was breaking Essex, but when ever someone would watch her they let her get on the furniture. I just gave up. I will admit my pair have me at woof.

  8. Yes I think I have over 1800 pictures of Katie and she’s only 2.5 years old! I can only find two pictures of Daisy…both apparently taken the same day. I’m sure there are more somewhere. Digital is a wonderful thing.
