Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Another tricky t-day snuck up on us!

Katie and I have been working on weaving between my legs.  At first she was scared, all that obedience training caused her to want to stick right next to me on the left.

“Not going through Mom’s legs, no siree!  Pretty sure THAT will get me a big ole “NO!”  Gonna prance right next to her and look beautiful, that’s what usually gets me my treat, no sense deviating from that…hmmm….Mom’s bending over all crooked, and there’s a tasty morsel in her hand, and it’s right over THERE…and so….OK!  MOM!  I’m going to get that treat even if it IS over on the other side of you!”

So the book says, practice this for 5 minutes a couple of times a day for two weeks and she should have it.  I can get her to weave in between my legs now without giving her a treat at each weave, just at the end.  I guess that’s progress.  But I haven’t figured out how to weave, reward AND get a picture of us.  So, I hope you guys have a vivid imagination.  OR…just go watch Sara and Oreo’s July 14’t post at http://saralovesdogs.blogspot.com/ !  Then pretend it’s me and Katie!  🙂  I think Sara is doing a wonderful job of teaching her two some great tricks.

Meanwhile…back to our weave practice…

“Wait!”  Katie whines, “It’s almost 2 in the morning, and a sheltie-girl has to get her beauty sleep!  How about we wait till tomorrow to try again?”

Good thinking girl.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. LOL! You 2 are funny! Good job on learning how to do the leg weave. I think it is such a fun trick to do. I have the opposite problem, when I want Oreo to heel – he weaves. Guess which one he learned first…..

We sure know how to confuse our poor animals.

Katie seem like she is a fast learner. Brains & beauty.

  4. Yay for you both! Although, 2 am is a bit late, or maybe I should say early for training much of anything in my opinion. LOL I’m totally sharing Katie’s thoughts that you should just be sleeping at that hour. 🙂

  5. You really would think our moms would get the message that learning new stuff is way too tiring. We have worked hard to train our humans to the point where they give us what we want for a sit down, shake paw and say please……but no – now we have to teach them something new. Really hoomans can be so frustrating at time

  6. BOL!
You tell her Katie! Sounds like you doing great. I always want to weave through legs. I try and barge through Mum’s legs if I not know what she wants.

  7. Dog Dad tries to get us to do the weave. However, collies are far more difficult than shelties. We think you can imagine why.

  8. Doesn’t your camera have a self timer? Set it a couple of times to get used to how long it takes to go off, prop the camera so that it’s aiming at where you’ll be, and then start your trick before the camera goes off. You’ll probably have to do several shots to get one that’s decent.

  9. Good idea, I’ll see if I can figure that all out!
