Here’s an 8 minute video from a news station in Florida, talking about the increased risk of semi truck crashes, and telling the story of the semi-school bus crash that occurred in Florida in September 2008. Be warned, it’s pretty hard to watch. But it’s the reason we have to keep fighting the fight.

Sara and Ricky, it’s OK that you can’t watch the video, that’s why I put the warning in. But the gist of it is that with the economy the way it is some truck drivers are taking risks they might not have, ie driving longer hours, to make more money. So be careful! The driver that hit the school bus was way over in hours. So was the one that hit my Dad. Just be careful. Many of them are keeping fake log books to cover up what they’re doing, there are more fatigued drivers on the road than anyone realizes.

Lets hope they don’t get the road trains here that we have back in Australia…they can be up 6 trucks long!!!! And if you think passing 1 is scary, try passing 6, they sway all over the place and cause there own wind drag that can suck cars right into the sides of them.

Reilly, we’re already fighting that, there are a few states that allow the triple trucks, we’re trying to stop that from going to any more states, and we oppose anything bigger than is already on the road right now. That may be a more obvious thing for people to get behind us on that the fatigue thing, we’ll see.

I went on an agility road trip once with a friend whose uncle was a trucker. He told her: Never drive next to a semi, never. So we’d stay behind until we could get into a place where we could get past them really quickly & shoot out way ahead.
