This week I was out shopping for a zippered sweatshirt to wear to doggie school. While I drove I was listening to public radio; such soothing and beautiful music! As I pulled into the parking lot a clarinet was playing a contemporary piece based on a 14th century hymn. It was absolutely stunning. I was sad that I had arrived at the parking lot because I wanted to hear the rest of the piece.
Then I had an epiphany.
There was no need for me to jump out of the car just because I had arrived at my destination. With no employment I was operating with no schedule and had the luxury of sitting in the car listening to the radio all afternoon if I wanted to. So I did.
And as I entered the store later I was assulted by ceiling high red Christmas trees and Madonna singing “Santa Baby.” Should have delayed reentry a bit longer.

that is the good side of not working, just being able to take time to smell the daisies as they say and to slow down and enjoy the moments.

Dogs are so good at appreciating the small things, and taking things slow when need be, unless there is a piece of chicken on the floor. That must be gobbled in one bite. LOL.
Thanks for the reminder to slow down. Do the things you enjoy.

Mom was in a coffee shop the other day and they were already playing Christmas music and she couldn’t believe it!
There are many positive aspects to being unemployed (except for no paycheck and health insurance but those things are over-rated -LOL!)

I love this story! I need to start practicing deep breathing techniques for entering any store now that we’re into the “holiday” season. Maybe that is why I always try to do homemade gifts for my family at Christmas…

Seems like they call those “driveway moments” on NPR don’t they? When you’re listening to something and you’re so engrossed that you don’t want to get out of the car. I love those!
