Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Change abounds

After I “mastered” the new blog look I asked for help from my friend and administrator extraordinaire Spike.  He fixed my little problem with logging back in, and then later surprised me with a whole new look to the blog.  It’s different than anything else I’ve seen, and as with any change and me, I have to look at it for awhile to see if I like it.  He’s pushing the envelope and he knows how I am about that.  Way to go Spike…keep pushing and I’ll keep growing.

On another front a blogger friend put together a list of 101 things she wanted to accomplish in 1001 days.  She did this a year ago, and at that time I was intrigued.  But you know me, the combination of slacker and fear of change meant I never got around to doing my own list.  So this week she was writing about it being her one year anniversary and how many of her 101 things she has accomplished so far and I thought “wait a minute, it’s been a whole year?”   Suddenly I was motivated to get going on my own list and so far I have 29 things listed.  Just working on that list I found out that Microsoft Word within Windows 7 is TOTALLY DIFFERENT AND I HATE IT!  Oh wait…that’s more change and it’s  Good for me. Really.  Sigh.  If, I mean when, I get it done I might share it with you.  Depending on how personal it turns out to be.

And on a third front…I’m practicing heeling with Katie-girl at the park and in the driveway, all in preparation for a Rally trial I think I’m going to sign us up for in September even though we haven’t been in Rally class since early June.  She seems pretty excited about working again; especially excited about that ole treat bag on Mama’s behind.

If you know what I mean.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Love the new look. Although now we have to learn to navigate it. LOL Diana

  2. Change is good, so they say. Who is “they” anyway?

101 things? Can you put simple things like load dishwasher, and change sheets on that list? That is pretty intimidating.

  9. I’m not too much into change and your new blog is freaking me out! I didn’t mind the look yesterday but now it is soooo different! Can somebody hold my hand and help me get through this?

(Why is Sara seeing a pink background? Is she ok? She sure did post a lot of comments! LOL!)

  12. It looks like I’ll get to be pink, since Ricky was first pink and then white. How fun! Insofar as the look of the blog – I like it. Occasionally a change (I know, the ugly word) is good.

The buzz was Bill Gates was thrilled with the new Word. I figured most of it out, but I don’t use it enough anymore to retain that knowledge. I have it on my desktop, but on my netbook (my primarily-for-blogging-and-oh-yes-travel tool) I downloaded Google’s Open Office. The writer program looks more like the old Word and there is a great deal of comfort in that for me. You can open Word docs and save them in the same format. So far, so good!

  13. No Ricky, you are special too, you got both pink and white comments!

Carol – maybe I will check out Google’s Open Office. So far I am struggling with the new Word. It’s like running shoes; when you find a pair you like the manufacturer goes and changes it.

  14. Wendy is dealing with that Dawn; her favorite running shoes aren’t made anymore! Alas, the longer we live, the more change we must endure.

I hope you like the interest and visual appeal of this theme. I still think it caters to your style of blogging. You can always change it back you know…but sometimes change is just a fresh way of looking at something familiar.

  15. I do not like the new look. Technically, it’s interesting. The individual pages are pretty. If there were only a few topics, ever, then it would be an appropriate first page to have those few topics listed.

HOWEVER– if one posts often (as you do) and if another one sometimes has time to read blogs only once a week or so (as I often do), then it is most annoying to have to go from the main page to the post, back to the main page, figure out which one you haven’t read yet, go to that post, back to the main page, figure out which one yo haven’t read yet, go that post– you get the idea. Not reader friendly. I think you won’t get new readers browsing casually through your posts. If I found a new blog that was formatted like this, I wouldn’t come back.

So: Change can be good. I’m not voting for the “indexed blog” kind of first page thing.
