Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Blueberry mist

My aunt called me the other evening and suggested we meet midway between our homes and pick a few blueberries.  While it’s still blueberry season.

It’s been so hot.  Oh yes, I think I already told you that, but anyway…it’s been so hot I haven’t wanted to go out and pick any fruit, though as a kid we always went strawberry, cherry, and blueberry picking.  And as an adult I used to try really hard to carry on the tradition.  But picking fruit alone turns out to be less of a fun adventure and more like hard work.  Especially when it’s hot.  Which it is.  As you know.

Anyway, we decided to get there when they opened, early in the morning before the heat became intolerable and as luck would have it we drove into a heavy mist as we approached the blueberry farm.

And I confirmed once again that picking fruit with someone on the other side of the row is much more fun that wistfully listening in on other family’s discussions.

Yum!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  3. How fun! Mom is starting to acquire a taste for blueberries but I don’t like them at all!

  4. Sara – my favorites too!

Marie – you don’t have blueberries out there? I thought with mountains you would. Don’t really know why I think there’s a correlation between blueberries and mountains…

Ricky – Katie likes them but she only gets one if I accidentally drop one. Tell your mom there are many varieties, some are tart, some are more sweet, some are bland, so she’ll have to keep trying until she finds the taste she likes!

  5. We have no place around us to pick berries (of any kind) either. Or at least not that I’m aware of. I do know some people that have a blueberry farm and a friend has them bring him bags of frozen berries every year – he always gets enough that I can have a couple of the bags. The Hub has taken to making blueberry pancakes for brunch every now and then. And I do blueberry smoothies. Yum!

  6. A friend just gave us a bag of blueberries from her yard. She says her dogs eat them all summer. Diana

  7. Blueberry mist…this sounds so poetic and romantic. Lovely blueberries. Imagining you eating them right now. I didn’t get to pick enough this summer. They were so early and we were busy doing other things… Alas. Isn’t it crazy how that can happen?

  8. Kathy, yes it’s amazing how short seasons are…though blueberries here last pretty much through August except this year where everything was early and short.

  9. Bit hot huh? Faith loves the heat. I don’t. But we both like fresh fruit.
