Change Is Hard

Breakfast with Mom

This morning as I was making my lunch to take to work I noticed a very ripe peach at the bottom of the fruit bowl.  Half of it was beyond help and I was going to toss it when I thought about my Mom, and how she used to peel peaches and put a few slices into each of four cereal bowls before we got up summer mornings so we’d have wonderful, fresh peaches with our cereal.  Heaven.  So this morning I peeled the good side of the peach and sliced it up into my Cheerios.

Today is Mom’s birthday, so I silently wished her a good day wherever she is.  August 11 is often the best night of the year to see shooting stars in our part of the world.  Tonight I’ll spend a few minutes in the backyard with her, watching the sky, hoping to see something special.

Beginning and ending my day with Mom.  Just like it used to be

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Happy Birthday to Dawn’s mom!

Peaches make me think of my Nannie. She always said that peaches taste better sliced.

  2. Today is the last day of the “Dog Days of Summer” and if the sky is clear you and your mom should have a very good connection and the sky should be amazing,

Peaches and Mom such a lovely memory to connect over.

  4. Isn’t this just the BEST time of year for the fresh fruit !!! I have been only a fruit only binge the last week, plumcots, apricots, nectarines, peaches, watermelon – heaven. It is always great when you can associate simple thing with wonderful memories – I think of my mom whenever I eat plums – she loved satsuma plums in particular. When you “chat” with tonight in your thoughts – let her know we say hi too.

  12. A lovely sweet-sour way to start the day, and stargazing with your mom tonight will be a lovely way to end the day. It is a gift to have those memories.

  13. That’s a great snapshot of you and your mother. Isn’t it good to have such memories? And to make new ones, too. I hope you got to see the Perseid shower. We had too much cloud cover–but there were other delights. There’s always something. Pats to that Katie girl.

  14. Great memory! Too bad the full moon really washed out the perseids. Even so, we were lucky enough to see a huge one blaze across the sky right in front of us. Hope you saw something else to remind you of your mom.
