The weather people remind us that last year on March 17 we had 75 degrees (23.8 C). This morning when I took Katie-girl out for her morning jaunt it was 22 degrees (-5.55 C). What a difference a year makes.
The heat wave we experienced last March, no matter how much we enjoyed it, was a very bad thing. Many of our farmers had no crop last summer, most of us lost trees and shrubs. Though I long for spring I will wait, albeit impatiently, until the appropriate time for warm breezes and flowers. Meanwhile — Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all of you! Enjoy some Irish Soda Bread and some forced forsythia that Katie and I cut from a bush in the yard last Sunday.
It’s blooming in the house today.

Happy St.Patrick’s Day! I know!! Last Spring was sooo abnormal. I saw on the news that the Dexter tornado was a year ago and it is hard for me to think it was that warm last year! Maybe our more “seasonal” weather this year will mean that our summer won’t be a scorcher? I hope so!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I love the forsythia – I never remember to cut some and bring it in. I was thinking about last year’s warm March today too. Nothing warm in sight next week here either.

I remember that crazy week or so last March. As enjoyable as it was, you are right, it messed a lot of stuff up in nature. HOWEVER, I wouldn’t mind some temperatures that are a little bit warmer! Happy St. Patty’s to you as well. How did you get a forced forsythia from outside?

Karma: Just go out in the yard, cut some branches indiscriminately, bring inside, trim bottoms again and put in vase of water and wait! 🙂

Thanks for the forsythia, Dawn. David tells me that his father, had he not died, would have been 110 years old today! Happy St. Paddy’s to you all!

Happy St Paddy’s Day Miss Katie , Dawn and Bruce. We have had high 70’s the last two days – it was wonderful – today of coarse is rain and back in the 50’s – still nice though.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Cold here too, but the sunshine makes me happy. Is it too early to drink a Guiness?

We had sun too, so you should have sun tomorrow as well. I think you can drink a Guiness anytime now. We went out for supper, saw a bunch of green beer, smelled the cabbage..none of it was that appealing to me…I had yummy chicken instead.

It’s a heat wave downstate 😉 It was 13 when we went out this morning, but it’s a sunny day and I suspect better for agriculture, so I’ll just wait for spring to arrive (or summer if we take last March into account!) in its own due time. Happy St. Paddy’s to ya!

Guess I should stop complaining about our 27 or 28! 🙂 But sun does make it all better.

Well put, Dawn. Last year was crazy — far too hot too early, far too dry. We were among those losing trees, and don’t get me started about the scarcity of veggies in our garden! We grumble about this season’s cold, but at least we’ve had rain to go along with it!

I’m afraid we lost our big (and 10 years old) Japanese maple…won’t know for sure till this spring. That will make me very very sad.

Everybody is talking about our heat wave last year! It was apparently 81 here, or some impossible number. I don’t even want to think about it. *grin* Happy St. Paddy’s day to you, Dawn, and glad it’s blooming in your house!
