Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Over the mountains and through the woods…

We’re off on another road trip. And as usual I don’t have enough time to tell you all about it. So I’ll just say that we drove along Lake Erie’s coastline through several small towns that were enticing. (Click on any photo to enlarge it.)

We got to see a few lighthouses, first at Marblehead…

This lighthouse has a great view of the Cedar Point amusement park across the bay.

…and then further along the coast at Fairport Harbor …

What a beautiful lawn!

What a beautiful lawn!

…where there was also an old lighthouse way out in the lake…

It was a cold day but people were kite surfing out there!

…and another way out in the lake at Loraine, all in Ohio…

Far, far away, and from another time.

…and then way up at the tip of Presque Isle Park in Erie Pennsylvania.

Being restored.

We didn’t get to climb any of these, but they are still beautiful. As was the lake, even though it was cold, windy, and often spitting rain.

Too cold and wet for a picnic today.

Today we drove across some of Pennsylvania, through the mountains (literally, we got to go through a tunnel!) and down to Washington DC.

Inside the tunnel...using the 'dramatic' camera setting.

It was a rainy, foggy drive, but because it’s Sunday the traffic wasn’t too bad until we got closer to the city.

Fog? Or were we just in the clouds?

We’re staying way out of town, and tonight we took the metro into Chinatown for dinner.

Then we stopped at our favorite gelato place on Dupont Circle for a bit of desert.

Never too cold or rainy for gelato!

Didn’t make my 10,000 steps today, too much time spent in the car. But tomorrow we’re going to visit Arlington Cemetery.

That ought to do it.

Rainy days and Sundays...

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  2. What a drive! I’ve done something similar going from New England to northern CA. Love your pix – brought it all back. I’m driving down to DC to visit my brother in a few weeks. Can’t wait.

    • DC is wonderful. Even though it’s raining pretty much all the time. I would love to drive from the east to the west coasts. Maybe someday. Thanks for stopping by!

      • I’ve driven west coast to east, and east coast to west (literally, Boston to SF, and back the other way). I most liked the east coast to west coast drive. Probably because I loved smelling the eucalyptus and redwoods and pine once I got to Lake Tahoe. 🙂

  3. I recognize some of those places! I love that last image. It wants to tell a story. 🙂

    • The story is that these two were the parents of a young couple having their engagement pictures taken on the beach. In the rain. And cold. The kids had no coats on but didn’t seem to notice. Mom and Dad looked cold.

  5. Safe travels, Dawn! You’ve included some beautiful photographs here — maybe on the way back, you’ll have sunny skies and can spend a bit more time looking at these lighthouses??

    • We had a little bit of sun this afternoon in DC at Arlington. I have a bit of a sunburn now. Of course. Then a big storm blew in, hoping tomorrow is a little more calm!
