Lucky to play

This morning I got to play music with some of the members of the Clarkston Community Band at our local Farmers’ Market. It was opening day at the market and the weather was perfect. Sunny and in the 70s with, at the beginning, no breeze to blow music around.

Ready to begin the next piece.

OK, so we were sight reading most of the music. And OK, we didn’t have all the instruments of a full band. And yes, we did dissolve into giggles in the middle of one piece of music we had optimistically thought we could pull off when it became obvious we weren’t going to make it to the end even remotely together.

Taking a break.

But hey, people stopped to listen, the Disney songs were a big hit with the little kids, and we got to spend a few more hours playing together at the end of our season.

You just can’t beat live music outside in the sunshine. I’d say it was a win for us and a win for people shopping the market on a beautiful Saturday morning.

    We have a little 4-5 piece band at our farmers market every weekend and it is lovely. Hearing their music as you walk from vendor to vendor is a real treat. I’m sure your shoppers enjoyed it.

    LOVE your new header!!! Such eager, “give-me-a-treat” faces!! And you know, there’s nothing like playing outdoors. I remember when I used to have flute lessons in the park. My teacher always said a flute is especially lovely outside — and lots of people stopped to listen (even to scales!) I’m glad you got another chance to play together. Your season seems awfully short to me, yet your weather should be just now getting really good. Maybe you can convince your director to play a few more concerts in the park?

    A nice way to end your season Dawn – yesterday WAS beautiful. Memorial Park near me is very small, but it has a volunteer garden established decades ago. Sometimes I go there looking for butterflies and last year while there one day I heard music. I forgot it was our City’s annual Garden Walk (just a handful of residences and this park on the agenda). Behind the rosebushes I found a cellist and a violinist, the last thing I expected to see. Your comment about no breeze to blow the music around … well, they finally had to stop playing since the music was blowing around the park, having come untethered from the clothespin.

    This made me smile! Loved that you dissolved into giggles when you saw the music going south- it just sounds like a fun, great get together of musicians on a beautiful day 🙂
