Last week a friend and I decided we needed an adventure, but neither of us had time for a long, fully planned and packed adventure.

But I have been feeling a keen need to find something amazing to photograph, something outside my own home and local parks. My friend had explored a colorful place, several weeks ago, just an hour north of us.
I asked her to take me there.

I mean — Saginaw Michigan just screams adventure. Right?
Of course right!

Saginaw is near the Shiawasee National Wildlife Refuge where you’ve all hiked with me to see pelicans and eagles and sandhill cranes.

Saginaw is not far from the Chippewa Nature Center where I’ve brought you along to find stunning color in the fall.

Saginaw isn’t even far from Midland Michigan and it’s Dow Gardens complete with a walk in the tree canopy. You’ve been with me there too, at least a couple times.

But this time we went to visit the Saginaw Shine Bright Mural Project.

And let me tell you, this place satisfied all my photography cravings in one big ole splat of gorgeous color.

Though I don’t know that it’s a location I’d want to explore alone, and certainly not at night, it was fun to spend a bit of time there with someone else who appreciated the art. It’s huge and it’s bright and it will definitely make you smile.

No matter the angle you view it from, whether you sit in your car and admire it from across the river or get all up close and personal, it’s well worth the visit.

And on the way home we stopped for a barn.

Of course.

Beautiful and creative and happy. Those colors are great juxtaposed against the gray sky. Fun adventure.

It was a very fun adventure! Adventures don’t have to be huge and planned out and included air fare! Though that’s fun too.

Wow! This is beautiful. Looks extra great against that grey sky, too.
Ha! The red car camouflage–not quite, but good try!

This adventure was all about color and was so much fun. The barn was just the cherry on top.

Oh my goodness, you’re so right: the colors are amazing! I can’t fathom what possessed these folks to paint these silos, but how cool that they did. I didn’t realize Serena Williams, the tennis player, was born in Saginaw. I guess I just assumed that, since she was so good, she must have been practicing ALL the time (and nobody can plan tennis year-round in Michigan because of the weather — unless they play indoors). I like the red car hiding beside the red barn, too.

I haven’t read about it, which I realize this very minute I should have. But I believe the silos were abandoned and this is what this artist does…paint murals on abandoned stuff. It was done very professionally, not just a bunch of people doing something haphazardly. I would have like to watch it being done.

Very vibrant, though it’s in a less than fun area of town.

Hi Dawn! What a happy splat of colors. Do you know if this is an abandoned business? I agree, despite the happy colors, it seemed like it could be a dicey area. I love that you stopped for the barn picture…of course you would…that is a given! 😊

Yes I believe I read, or someone told me, that these were abandoned silos.

WOW! Saginaw is on my list to visit! 🙂 And of course, of course, the barn … my word that’s a tall barn. Oh, but I love the colors of those murals. Might be fun to drive by at night and see if those tanks are lit up.

Saginaw itself is not a destination, in my opinion, though I could be wrong. But there’s LOTS of stuff to see around and near it. Plus it’s not far from ME! So if you ever do get here…I’ll show you around!

What a contrast with the bright colors versus the gray sky and then the faded red barn. That sounds like it was a fun day trip and perfect to brighten up sagging moods.

I love it! What a great idea. The colors are so uplifting.
I’m so glad that street art is catching on. We have some here in our local city, and it really brightens up the concrete jungle.
I was in Salem, Mass a few years ago, and they transformed an entire affordable housing neighborhood with street art. It was spectacular.
