Penny here, Happy Birthday to me! Today I turn the big THREE, and mom says she doesn’t know how that could have happened already. She says I don’t act a day over one. Maybe one and a half.

February 2025

Mom says now that I’m beyond my terrible twos I’m supposed to settle down. Don’t tell her but I’m planning on going into my tasmanian threes.

Starting today.

May 2025

Anyway, I had a very good year, and I can’t wait to find out what I’m going to do next!

July 2025

Meanwhile today I will be expecting cake and ice cream with candles and gifts wrapped in pretty paper.

October 2025

Or extra kibble for dinner. I’m good either way.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back.       I don’t like the boots much, Ms. Barbara. They belonged to my sister Katie and she had smaller feet. But even if mom gets the right size for me I don’t think I’ll like them. I practicice kicking them off and I’m very good at losing a couple in the snow drifts. Mom sighs a lot around here in the winter time.

      She’s gotten really good about standing still for me and posing. She gets a treat after you know. But she pretty much doesn’t want to SIT if I ask her, so most of her images are with her standing up. She’s the most stubborn dog I’ve ever met. Adorable too, though.

      Thank you Ms. Denise It was really really cold out on my birthday so mostly mom and I napped. She didn’t make me a cake either. She says neither she nor I need the calories. What’s a calorie anyway?

      Well, Ms. Carol, I tried being someone more obedient but that just felt boring. So I’m keeping with my strategy of doing what I want whenever I want and so far it’s been a blast. Mom sighs a lot though.

      Well Ms. Debbie, I have decided to bring some of the terrible twos along with me into my tasmanian threes. Cause you can’t have too much excitment, that’s what I always say. Last night was my last night of school for the year and I gave my mom a hard time just so she appreciate it when I’m being good. Mom needs to pay more attention to me, don’t you think?

    Happy Birthday Penny! I just thought of you this morning with this cold spell and I wondered if you were wearing your boots, or did you hide them from Mom after January’s picture? I know you weren’t keen on wearing them. 🙂

      I didn’t want to wear my boots, Ms. Linda, so mom finally just let me go out without them. It was soooo cold. I got a chance to pee and then I was walking around in the snow and one foot got really cold so I held it up for mom to warm, and she held it in her hand for a minute and then I was able to walk some more, and then TWO feet got cold and mom said she couldn’t stand out there all day warming up my feet and she picked me up and carried me back inside. Secretly I was glad she did.

        That’s funny Penny – yes, never let on like your feet are cold, when you could have worn boots. That’s a no-no. Your story reminds me of when I was a kid and got suited up in all kinds of clothes to play in the snow … it took longer to get dressed in those layers and boots than I was outside playing.

      Wow Ms. Joanne! Who’d have thought I’d share ANYTHING with a CAT! I’m not even sure what a cat is! Maybe I should meet your Bowie! I might like cats, though if they’re anything like SQUIRRELS it might prove interesting and not in a good way, you know? Mom says I probably should spend my entire life on a leash just to keep me and the rest of the world safe.
