Christmas red

As much as I love the coloring of female cardinals, I have to admit the Christmas red of the males is pretty spectacular.

Merry Christmas everybody.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  8. I have to agree, but they always fly in pairs. In our yard the male is the ‘hunter’ and when it’s ok to eat, then the female appears. It’s like he is watching over her, which I find very sweet. Merry Christmas, Dawn.

    • Right now the males seem to be flocked together. There were five in an ice covered tree today, waiting their turns at the feeder. There was one or maybe 2 females too…but later on in the new year they will be in pairs again around here. I hope you had a good Christmas.

      • I’ll bet that was quite a sight to see! I saw some pictures online of ice-covered trees with red berries and it looked beautiful. We were at 33 degrees more than at the freezing mark, so we did not get ice build-up like you had. My Christmas was quiet, but at least I got out for a walk, something that has been in short supply lately and likely tomorrow too.

  11. Gorgeous photo, Dawn! Hope you had a festive Christmas. It was warmer here than normal, but I’m not complaining. At least, I’m not having to shovel snow … or towel off four feeties when “somebody” insists on going out for a look-see!
