Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Seasons all fold together

Last Sunday my community band played our first concert of the season, a Halloween concert, complete with us dressing in costume.

We all had a great time listening to and playing the spooky music.

Yesterday I went to a big box store to buy 50 pounds of oiler seeds for my demanding wild birds. Though Halloween itself isn’t for another couple days I was immediately struck by how Christmas festive the store was.

The forest of lit Christmas trees made me smile.

The giant Santa made me question whether people really need to spend that kind of money. I mean, you could buy a cart of groceries for the same amount! 🙂

And as I gazed over the entire area I realized just how much our seasons, Halloween to Christmas, have really been folded together.

I’m not done with the pumpkins yet, and though it was kind of cool, in a shock to the system sort of way, I’m not ready to even think about Christmas.

Heck, I haven’t even enjoyed my turkey dinner!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. I agree! Whatever happened to enjoying one holiday at a time?

  2. Love the picture of Santa situated in the midst of all the Halloween stuff. Too funny. I’m definitely not ready for Christmas. Talk to me after Thanksgiving.

  3. What a fun concert that must have been! Love your costume. So true about the seasons blending together. But I so love this time of year.

  4. Oh, I would have loved to be at that concert. It sounds like my kind of thing! I hear you on the crossover holidays. I refuse to look at Christmas till after Halloween. Walk right by it (though sometimes it is hard to miss, as you discovered!) I won’t bring out anything at home until after Thanksgiving, though this year it is so late! At least I’ll get it upstairs in the guest room (hopefully no TG guests!) so I can power down the day after (or maybe even that morning in discreet ways!)

Right now, it just feels too overwhelming — I suppose closing down the cottage, then time in Stratford, then medical stuff adds to it. But I want to cherish fall as long as I can!
