The best, fun, most extraordinary day

This is all for me!

This is all for me!

Katie here. I know, I know. You just heard from me at Thanksgiving, right? But I have to tell you about the wonderful day I had with my mama yesterday! And heck, she’s still sleeping, so I figure I get to blog as much as I want. She’ll never know.

So anyway, mama said some guys were coming to work on the house and it was going to be noisy and she figured I would just make it nosier and stress everyone out so she told my daddy that she was taking me to the park.

All day!

Of course my daddy was up early and whenever that happens I usually end up at the groomer or the kennel or the vet, so I was very nervous and tried to skulk away to hide in the bedroom where no one would think to look for me. But mama told me not to worry and put me in my car.

Going for a walk.

Going for a walk.

Well I was still worried so I remained very still and very quiet as she drove all over running errands. We did stop at my park but it was just for a moment and only to let me do my business because mama knows I always do all my business there right away. Then she put me back in the car without walking all the way around!

I was upset!

And I was right! We went to the groomer! How could you mama?! OK, it was just to get my nails clipped and I got to sit on mama’s lap and I got a treat, and my favorite girl was there to do it, so it wasn’t all that bad, but I told my mama off when we got back in the car anyway.

I love this time of year!

I love this time of year!

So to make it up to me mama took me to a park I’ve never been to before that is over on the groomer’s side of town. No one was there! We got to walk through the woods and play in the deep oak leaves.

Get the ball mama!

Get the ball mama!

And there was a fenced in space where some other doggie left three tennis balls. I got so excited when I saw those! Mama threw them for me and I ran and ran and ran and spun around in excitement. I never actually touched the tennis balls (they might have boy cooties) but I’d race out to where the ball landed and then spin in circles. It was so much fun, especially since that made my mama have to go get the ball to throw it for me again.

Run mama, run!

Run mama, run!

And do you know what we did next? We went back to my park! I couldn’t believe it when we got there and mama got me out of the car! A second park in the same day! Boy oh boy! I was sooooo happy I grinned almost the whole way around the park.

But about three quarters of the way around I sat down and smiled at my mama. It was time for a rest. So we did! Mama didn’t tell me to ‘lets go’ or anything. She said it was a big day and it was OK for me to rest. But then I saw a chipmunk and we were off again! I can always count on chipmunks to revive me!

Got any treats mama?

Got any treats mama?

When we finally got home late in the afternoon guess what? There weren’t any men working on my house and daddy said they are coming today instead.

Mama was not happy.

She says she doesn’t know how she can top yesterday and keep me busy all day again. I told her I was up for anything, especially if it involves walks and rides and parks and treats.

I could just run all day!

I could just run all day!

Yesterday was my favorite kind of day. Whatcha going to do with me today mama?

I'll pose once mama.

I’ll pose once mama.

Katie says she’s thankful

Listen up!

Listen up!

Katie here.

I know I usually steal mama’s blog when I have a complaint to voice. And don’t get me wrong, there are numerous things to complain about, mostly revolving around the limited access I have to treats. I’m working on that, but it’s slow going.

My mama told me today is Thanksgiving here in the United States. That’s a time when families and friends get together, eat a lot of food, and remind themselves how truly lucky they are. Well. If there’s a lot of food involved I’m in.

Oh.

Mama says it’s not about the food. She says that I have to tell you all what I’m thankful for. Well let me see…

First of all I’m thankful that I have my mama and my daddy to take care of me. I don’t admit it very often but they spoil me just a little bit. I have pillows all over the house just in case I want to take a nap. I need a pile of pillows, don’t you know, because I’m a princess. And a princess always needs to be comfortable. I also get to sleep on the bed, and if I choose the best spot they will usually move over for me. And they make sure I have lots of toys to play with, and they never (hardly ever) forget to feed me right on schedule; if they’re a little slow I remind them and they hop right on it. Yep, my mama and my daddy are the best things that ever happened to me. But don’t tell them, I don’t want them to get too big headed.

My aunt got me this frog when I was a baby!

I’m also thankful for all the adventures my mama takes me on. We get to go to my park pretty often, and my mama takes me to other bigger parks too. There’s always a lot to sniff and I love to go go GO! Sometimes, when it’s nice out, we even go to the park and stay there all night! Mama says that’s called camping and I just love it! I get to sleep outside (well, in a tent) and smell the lovely sniffings all day long! I love being outside so camping is just perfect for me! Mama says she likes to do that too so it all works out.

Camping is a blast!

Camping is a blast!

And of course I’m thankful for all of you! I like hearing about all your adventures. It’s a small world and it’s good to know so many doggie families. I’m especially thankful to be Reilly the CowSpotdog’s girlfriend. I hope I get to actually meet him and his family soon — we’ve been long distance friends for a really long time. He lives in a pawsome place now and I can’t wait to visit!

My boyfriend Reilly.

On a sad note we had very bad news last night when we heard that our FB sheltie friend Agnes Ann was killed by a car. Mama couldn’t stop crying, though I tried to make her feel better. She and I went outside and looked at the big full moon and she hugged me really tight and I let her cause I knew that’s what she needed to do. She cried into my fur for a long time and I was just quiet, didn’t even ask to get down. After awhile she wiped her eyes and rubbed the sheltie fur off of her face and we came back inside. I’m thankful that I can give mama that comfort when she needs it. She says I should tell you all to hug your people today too.

This Thanksgiving will be quiet here and I’m happy to be spending it with my folks. I am thankful that they aren’t going south this year, they’re going to spend this holiday with me! I hope they share some of that food I’ve heard so much about, but I doubt it. Mama has this silly rule about people food. I don’t get any unless it happens to jump off the counter on it’s own accord. Which is why whenever mama is in the kitchen I’m in the kitchen. Shelties are smart you know.

Thankful that I'm beautiful.

Thankful that I’m beautiful.

I hope you all have a wonderful, calm, peaceful and happy Thanksgiving with your peoples. I’m thankful for each of you that reads my mama’s blog. It makes her feel good to know you’re all out there.

And if you think of it, send some healing thoughts to Agnes Ann’s mom Kathy.

I'm thankful for all of YOU!

I’m thankful for all of YOU!

Katie’s pretty good weekend

Katie here!

Wasn’t it a beautiful weekend? We had sunshine and I got to be outside in my pen a bunch! I love sitting out guarding my backyard against those pesky squirrels. OK, sometimes I fall asleep for a few brief moments, but trust me, if anything tries to cross my backyard I’m alert instantly!

Not napping. Just resting my eyes.

Not napping. Just resting my eyes.

And you know what else? On Saturday my mama took me to my park! It was so much fun! It was only 44 degrees out (6.66 C) and I was a completely different dog than the last time we went! No laying down in the shade for me! Oh no. I trotted around that park at high speed, stopping to sniff on occasion, but mostly trotting along happy to keep my mama sprinting. (Revenge is sweet, right?) She kept making me stop so she could take pictures of stuff. Stuff that was not me! Who would do that? I mean I am the most photogenic thing around, right?

Afternoon reflections.

Afternoon reflections.

Well OK, I concede that the park was pretty that day even though the sun was mostly under clouds. No one else was out there and mama let me walk along without her some of the time while she took pictures. I figured we’d make record time on the almost one mile around the park, which was good because the sun was starting to go down and we didn’t want to be there after dark.

The light is going.

The light is going.

So I’m hurrying her along and we’re almost back at the car when suddenly the sun comes out! And you know what my mama did? She started taking pictures of me! Cause she said that the low late afternoon sun made my fur really pretty. What do you think?

Yes I know. I'm beautiful.

Yes I know. I’m beautiful.

I think she was right. I sat and stood for her just like a good model for awhile, and then I reminded her that I hadn’t had my supper yet, and a super model demands to be paid. My preference for payment is in treats, but since she didn’t bring any I figured it was within my rights to demand we go home and get supper. I’m sure you agree.

I'm hungry mama!

I’m hungry mama!

So we head toward the car and guess what? There were four deer coming into my park!

They're infringing on my park!

They’re infringing on my park!

Well! I knew I had to defend my mama and my park so I barked and barked and barked and barked and they wandered off into the meadow toward my pond. I took care of them! They were too afraid to come toward us. Now I knew I deserved my dinner!

I took care of them mama!

I took care of them mama!

So off we went back to my house. When we got there I noticed that there was a great sunset that we would have seen if we had stayed at the park. Oh well. That’s the price you have to pay when you’re working with a super model. Am I right?

Pretty.

Missed it!.

It was a perfect weekend. I know I complain about my folks a lot, but this weekend they really came through and let me do a lot of fun stuff. I’m definitely going to need to take a nap now, in order to rest up for tomorrow. I hear it’s going to be another pretty day.

I think another park is in my future.

I can't wait!

I can’t wait!

Three Day Quote Challenge

Rules mama? There are rules?

Rules mama? There are rules?

Carol challenged me to post quotes on three days. As usual in these types of challenges I’m supposed to nominate 3 people to carry the challenge forward. That’s the hardest part for me.

Finding a quote is actually quite interesting. I’ve always admired those whose blog starts each time with a relevant quote. I’ve wondered where they find such appropriate quotes. Now I need to find a few myself.

What type of quote should I look for? Inspirational? Humorous? Pointed? I guess we’ll see how this all falls out.

So here is the Day 1 quote:

“If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.” – Katharine Hepburn

I’ve always liked Katharine Hepburn, and now I know why. She’s right. I spent a good part of my life following all the rules. Mostly that was fine. But these days, lucky in retirement, I have begun to realize that not all rules are meant to be followed.

So the first rule I’m breaking is the nominating part of this challenge. If you, like me, would like to explore sources of inspirational, humorous, or pointed quotes…then share a few with us in the next few days.

I look forward to them all!
