Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Saturday was Katie’s birthday!

She’s six now, almost middle aged.  But don’t tell her that…she’s still a puppy at heart.

Yesterday I didn’t feel right  posting about her birthday given so many will never have another.   But today she reminds me that three years ago I forgot her birthday entirely and she doesn’t want me to forget it again!

So here is her birthday photo…with a pretty pink toy she got from her boyfriend Reilly!

"Thank you Reilly!"

“Thank you Reilly!”

Happy birthday little one.  You are a sweetie for sure.

Silly girl

For a little comic relief I present…Katie!

Yes Mama?

Yes Mama?

She and I have a Rally trial coming up this Saturday.  Last night I was telling my husband that I spent my lunch in the car reading the Advanced Rally signs and practicing commands out loud.  I demonstrated for him; “siT! Down! Back!  Circle!  Katie – HEEL!”  He started laughing and pointed behind me.

There was Katie dutifully sitting and downing, all the time cocking her head to one side as if to say “GEEZE Mama, not so fast!  You know you were using your SCHOOL voice!”

And now she tells me if I laugh at her she just might not be so responsive come Saturday.  So I guess I better be more respectful.  Because you never know what a Sheltie is going to do.

You just never know.

You called?

You called?

I did not do it!

Sunday I cleaned – cleaned lots of stuff, including the front of the dishwasher, removing drips and fingerprints, dried on stuff of undetermined origin.

Monday night I got home from work and found this.

Katie says she is not responsible.  But if she didn’t do it that only leaves husband.  Who was, admittedly very hungry when I got home.

Still…

Sleepy girl

You awake Mama?

It’s 5:00 a.m. at Katie’s house.

Katie:  Sigh.  Huff.  Double huff.

Me:  Katie!  Go lay down.!

Katie:  Whine

Me:  Katie. G.O. l.a.y. DOWN!

Katie:  Sigh.

4 minutes later….

Katie:  Whine.

Me:  Sigh.

We get up, go outside.  She wanders around just in case there’s something interesting.  Nothing.  We go back inside, and I begin the day.  So it’s a little early, all the better to get things done.  Right?

While I’m in the shower she curls up in her favorite bathroom spot and goes to sleep.  Stepping out of the shower I wait for her to lick the water off my feet; she does this every morning.  After I’ve stood there awhile I realize she hasn’t moved.  Except her eyes are open and she’s watching me.

Katie:  I’m too tired to get up and lick your feet Mama.  I had to get up early and walk around outside in the wet grass and now my fur is all messed up!

Me:  Sigh.
