Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Training Challenge #5

Since I’ve been sitting most of the week with my leg elevated and iced Katie and I haven’t done much work on anything.  You can tell.  She wants to GO TO THE PARK RIGHT NOW MOM!!!  But I can’t walk that much, and certainly not on the uneven ground at the park.

So we went to a pet supply store and worked on keeping her attention on me rather than all the good sniffing spots.  She’s a bit of a vacuum cleaner and I’m worried about our next Rally trial, which is a week from today!  (OH NOOOO!)

I did a bit of Rally stuff; heeling, sitting, turning, lying down.  It went OK.  Pretty good I guess given all the distractions.  It all seems to depend on what the treats are.  If they’re tasty and special enough a typhoon could go by and she’d continue to stare at me.  If it’s just her regular kibble….well….lots of stuff is more important and more interesting than her regular kibble or her Mom.

Next Sunday is our Rally trial.  I guess that will be our Training Challenge #6!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  2. Sure hope that knee is better by the Rally!

Our girls are sniffers wherever they are – if they’ve found a really good scent, I can call them until I’m blue in the face. It’s “Okay, okay. I’ll get there as soon as I’m done collecting this information”.

  5. What an exciting challenge for next week! Can’t wait to hear how that goes.

I think doing rally stuff in the pet store was a great idea. Lots and lost of distractions there.

I missed seeing you and Katie, hope you is all ok. I hope your new/old job goes well too. Keep looking out for libraries, Mum thinks things tend to happen when you not looking for them.

  9. Good challenge for the week! I know how hard it is to focus on a mom when you’re in a pet store where there are so many good smells and so many tasty tidbits on the floor! Getting Katie to do some of her rally exercises there was a great idea!

I am so excited about your rally trial next weekend – it is going to be a super experience for you two!

Hope your knee is soon much, much better!
