My husband and I have been married twenty years and we celebrated our anniversary by visiting the Meijer Gardens near Grand Rapids Michigan. The gardens have a huge conservatory with tropical plants, and acres and acres of gardens outside that are beautifully planted and showcase giant sculpture.
The gardens are wonderful, the sculpture interesting, sometimes even funny…and right now there is a special installation of giant art glass interspersed among the waterfalls, flowers, grasses, hills, woods and sculptures.
There were so many wonderful, colorful, playful and striking things to see; I have so many pictures to show you, but I guess I’ll try to limit myself here.
It’s going to be difficult to choose…
…because there were just so many amazing things to see.
I wish you could all have been there…
…to see the glass balls bobbing in the water and nestled among the rocks in the waterfalls…
…and the tall rushes in the woods…
…and tucked in among the real rushes near the wetlands.
So much to share with you. Maybe I’ll put a few more pictures up tomorrow.
Meanwhile, did you see the big hawk sitting on top of the huge horse sculpture?

Happy Anniversary!
What a cool place! I loved the trowel the best, or maybe the round balls in the waterfall….

Susie – the Art Glass installation was supposed to go till the end of Sept but I heard while we were there that it was going to stay till the end of Oct. Worth the drive! Even without the glass stuff (though that was spectacular) the gardens are wonderful!

THAT IS REALLY NEAT. I think my favorite is the glass balls in the waterfall with the rocks, I wonder if they have to fish those out during storms to keep them from gostling around too much and breaking?? Great pictures and really great post.—Kathy

Congratulations on 20 years! Like any partnership, it takes teamwork tomake it happen. Well done both of you. Love the photos; nicely done. The giant trowel is wonderful–gives me a grasshopper’s perspective on the giant working in the garden.

Another wonderful walk with you. I loved all the photos, but I have a particular fondness for the glass float balls – I bought a few when I was on the Oregon coast a few years ago and have them floating in the pond.

Congratulations on your anniversary.
I always heard about this garden but never made a trip while I was in Michigan – clearly a big loss on my part. I love the Chihuly globes in the gardens. I saw a very similar installation at a Chicago conservatory many moons ago.

What a wonderful park! I really enjoyed to walk “with You” in this beautiful park full of art. In addition to the nature, I love art also in its many forms.
My congratulations also to Your anniversary.
