Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Last day of Indian Summer?

This afternoon, on what might be the last absolutely beautiful day of fall, Katie and I went out to play Frisbee in the back yard.  What a glorious day!  The forsythia is blooming!  Does this mean it won’t bloom next spring?

The burning bush has a few leaves left, shining in the last light of fall.

Katie had a blast.  She brought the Frisbee back to me most of the time.

Though sometimes she took it off with her for a personal adventure that didn’t include me.

After so much running around it was time to take a quick break.

Then it was back to the fun.  Come ON Mom, throw it!

OK Katie-girl….here you go!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. You lucky dogs (you and Katie)! Our last day of good weather was Thursday, and then the sky turned grey and the wind chilly. Indoors, however, I started Sarah on a new “trick” this morning. Throw the toy over the bar for her–she jumps over to fetch it, then brings it back, jumping the bar again. She did it perfectly four times in a row but was too distracted when my friend Susan came to visit. How does Katie do with distractions? I really need to work with Sarah when there are more people around so she gets used to performing “under fire.”

  2. The best part about changing seasons is that you learn to appreciate those extra special “perfect” days. We are having a 60 degree day here today. Wow. Everyone is in a good mood, soaking in the sun while we they tune up their snowblowers.

Gotta stop typing, so I can go throw a certain black & white dog a ball.

  3. We tried to make the most of the last nice day today too! What a week we had here – gorgeous every day since Monday. So sad to see it ending and hope that we get a few more nice days here and there.

I have not seen any forsythia blooming – I don’t know if it will bloom in the spring or not but I hope so!

  4. After that little batch of snow we had here, we’ve had a wonderful return to fall again. It was warm enough yesterday I worked with Dare in the yard without a coat! It was awesome.

As for the forsythia…I don’t think I’ve ever seen them bloom this time of year. I have no idea what that could mean. LOL

  5. I think winter has come to stay with us. It’s been gray and cold, good stay-inside weather. I thought today was supposed to be sunny and nice, so we planned to take a ride to Prospect Falls, let the dog run and take some pictures. Wrong. It wasn’t nice at all, so we postponed that drive until we get a day that is at least sunny. How nice that you and Katie had a nice day to go out and play. I bet she misses you when you’re at work.

  6. PJ – Katie is pretty focused when we’re “working” but the reason she didn’t always bring back the Frisbee today was because she’d get distracted by smells, birds at the feeder, chipmunks…because I didn’t have treats to give her when she did what she was supposed to she chose not to focus that much on me. Silly girl.

  7. For a person who lives next to the Equator, I really enjoy reading about the fabulous changes of the four seasons! Beautiful flowers in spring, beach and sunshine in summer, different colours of plants and leaves in fall and then the beautiful white snow in winter. I think all these changes really let everyone treasures the best day of each season!

Katie seems to have a great day with her frisbee! What a beautiful girl she is!
