Ready or not Christmas is coming! My husband and I were in a retail store the day before Halloween this year and were shocked to see it all decorated with Christmas trees and enormous ornaments. I meant to go back and get a picture, but I didn’t. Time just slips away. Now the big day is just a couple of weeks away. Are you ready? I’m not!
Today we put some lights up outside. I love to see houses all decked out in lights. I love to drive through neighborhoods after dark and look at all the colors. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy; sort of Norman Rockwell-ish. Here in Lower Michigan we’ve had lots of warm early winter days when we might have completed this task but our holiday lights didn’t venture up from their basement bins. Today, with a big snow storm headed our way we couldn’t put it off any longer.
Remember last year when I put everything away in their holiday bins? I was so proud of us, being so organized, everything in it’s red and green bin, labeled and ready for next year.
We packed all the lights and outdoor cords neatly away, so as to make this year so much easier. I don’t know what happened.
Somehow the Grinch must have gotten into those bins over the summer, because the lights and cords were a tangled mess this morning!
But after much work I got most of it sorted out. Katie helped.
And now I’m anxiously waiting for the evening to fall so that I can enjoy my very own holiday lights. This year we put some on the smaller trees in the backyard. Can’t wait to see what the neighborhood deer think about that!
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend everyone! Katie sends hugs.

Do all your strings of lights work, Dawn? After trying several on my bookstore tree, I finally found one string that worked, but today it began dying from the bottom up, so all I want for Christmas next year is lights that will last for several years! Lights are so cheerful, though, aren’t they? How would we get through winter without them?
Was Katie a lot of help? We have a phrase in our house. We call it “dog help” when someone eagerly gets in the way and slows down the process!

We had two that didn’t work, husband got one to work and we’re tossing the other one. We figure the holiday light czar makes money selling us cheap lights that only last a year. It’s almost dark now and my three blue trees in the back yard have now caused Katie to bark hysterically. “That wasn’t there before MOM!!! DANGER DANGER! Don’t worry, I’ll protect you!”
Sigh.

Oh you are ambitious! Jeff and I keep joking about how our Christmas tree is a 6 inch ceramic one this year!
I’m sure your lights will look beautiful, especially if it snows!

I bet you did just get your lights up in time for the bad weather! I hope we are going to see some pictures of the final product!
Lights always get tangled no matter how carefully you pack them up!

I have managed to get a tree up and put lights on it but that is about the limit of my Christmas spirit. Oh wait, I put a wreath on the door too 🙂 I loved you Christmas storage boxes, seems a much better idea than the shoe box I keep my lights in.

Decorating was something I used to go all out to do. Everything was decorated. Now? This year we have the prelit undecorated tree up and a poinsettia plant that is looking worse for the wear. That’s because this year we have the extra help called Lily. But even without Lily I’ve done little more than decorate the tree and set out a few of my Santas. Each year I get older I get less interested in decorating for holidays. Or is it just lazier? Katie is such pretty help though, and it’s so good that she’s protecting you from those strange creatures in the yard.
