Change Is Hard

Adventure dreams

Katie and I need a real adventure.  We need to travel further, maybe stay overnight somewhere, explore new places, sniff new smells.  But all my creative juices seem to have dried up with the heat.

Katie says she’s willing to go anywhere.  She’s always ready to go Go GO! It’s Mama that can’t figure out where we should head.  And when.

We have company coming in a week or so…and he’s staying for three weeks, so really all adventures will have to be after that.  Katie won’t mind, she’ll have more company to play with her, to heap adoration on her pretty head, to jump at her every whim.  But after that?  Well, she’s going to want to go Go GO!

A princess has to be catered to don’t you know.  So Mama here is open to suggestions.  It needs to be somewhere we can get to and home from in a weekend so Mama doesn’t have to spend any precious vacation days that she is oh so slowly accumulating.

Suggestions?

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. How exciting that you’ll soon have company!! It sure doesn’t hurt a pretty pup’s ego to have someone heaping praises and catering to her every whim!! (I think Hershey and Katie will get along just fine cos they are the same! :P)

  2. I don’t know your area too well, but petfriendly.com is a good place to start. They list hotels and attractions that are pet friendly in various towns and cities. THey even give you outdoor restaurants so you and Katie can dine al fresco!

  3. Is Canada too far? Have a passport? We went here before we got Ricky so I am not 100% sure about the pet policy. But it is a beautiful place and the campground is fantastic! It’s about 5 hours from here so must be closer for you!

  4. I love going to new places around town. Sounds like fun. Hey I looked at that book, “The Art of Racing in the Rain”. I read thur it at the bookstore. It seemed like a tear jerker. I just dont think I can read it. I know I need to see the bigger picture but all I kept fearing was him putting his dog down.

  5. How I wish we could have more places which are dog (or at least pet) friendly over here!

  6. Diana, I’m with you; I haven’t read it either for the same reason! 🙂

  7. I’m sure you’ve already thought of Northport! 🙂 Sarah loves company, too, and this morning Sarah really wishes she could go on an adventure instead of to the boring old bookstore again. It’s a dog’s life.

  9. Yes, yes. Read “The Art of Racing in the Rain”. It made me cry, but it was oh-so worth it! Dawn, open a map, folded so that all it shows are places easily reached for a weekend from where you live, close your eyes and point. Anywhere you go there will be new things to explore – places for Katie to “gather information” if you will. And things for you to photograph.

  13. Of course…hmmm….three weeks, you say? That’s about when Kiah is coming home for a month and we are going to take off on travels ourselves. Hmmmm….well, it still might work out!

  15. I think I should pack the pup in the car and make a BIG circle up north to visit Sarah at Dog Ears, to the UP to visit Kathy, back down south to see Reilly and Denny and then over to see Oreo and Chewy and the stop in to see Ricky on the way home! THAT would be a trip!…oh wait. I have a job….sigh. I can dream though…

  17. I don’t know what you consider “drivable” for a weekend, but Cape Cod is lovely in September. Most of the tourists have gone and prices of hotels go down, and I know for a fact there are pet-friendly places there.
