Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Frost warning

Summer seems to have ended abruptly though I hope we’ll still get that Indian Summer we so enjoy here.

This week the evening news warned of a frost ‘in the outlying areas” and we’re certainly outlying, so I went out to the garden and cut a few of the dahlia’s to take to my aunt.

And because I couldn’t bear the thought of all the beautiful flowers brown with frost so soon.

We didn’t get the frost, but I’m still glad I brought some of the blooms inside.

They’re so beautiful.

PS:  Scott has another photographic assignment due 9/28.  The challenge is to photograph something competitive.  I’ll be thinking about this one.  You can too!  There’s still lots of time!

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. We had the warning, but no frost too.

Dahlia’s are so cheerful and colorful. I’m sure your Aunt will love them.

  4. We have the abruptly cool temperatures too – luckily no frost warning yet: I still have tomatoes and hot peppers to pick!
Your dahlias are lovely. I love them very much, but have always been to lazy to plant the full-sized ones since you have to dig them up for them to survive the winter. I plant the mini-annual ones in containers just so I can have something similar, but the big ones are just gorgeous.

  5. Your dahlias are gorgeous! We saw some beautiful ones at the Farmers’ Market in Portland Monday. I’ve never planted them because, like Karma, I’m too lazy to dig them in the fall. I do have a canna and a Rex Begonia in pots just barely beginning to bloom. Perhaps we’ll have some warm days and nights above that 32 mark we’ve hit the past two nights so they can complete their blossoming for this year. I can hope.

  8. I have fingers crossed for an Indian summer here, too. I dread the cold. Maybe I need to move further south. (Beautiful, beautiful pictures, btw!)

  9. Such purty flowers!! My fresh flowers all come from Whole Foods.

Frost was on the news but not nipping at our toes.

  11. Those are just gorgeous! It’s getting cool here too, I don’t know if we’ve had frost yet, but leaves are starting to change here and there, so I’m sure if it hasn’t happened, it’s not too far in the future.
