Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Attention all WordPress users

I’m going to need a little help.  I’ve been trying, admittedly sporadically, to get this blog setup finished.  I’m trying to get my blogroll to appear on the right.  As you can clearly see the list of blogs I follow only indicates a WordPress blog.  Which, by the way, I don’t follow.

I have a lot of your blogs all lined up on my links page, and I’ve moved the little widget thingy over to the right side bar place.  Which is how the “blogs I follow” title showed up.  But obviously that title is not connected to my list of links.

I tried to study the WordPress link that does show up there, to see what was different about it than the rest of the links I have ready and waiting to go…but don’t see anything.

I think this is the limit of my computer tech abilities.  So all of you out there that work with WordPress…if you have any hints I’d appreciate it.   I know someone out there will know how to do this.  And that it’s probably something stupidly simple.

Katie says “Please help my mama, as she spends all her spare time, and she has so little of that, working on this stupid blog.  She should be spending it playing with me!”

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  2. Well, Dawn, I don’t know if this is anything different than what you’ve been doing, but I will tell you how things look in my dashboard where my blogroll is set up and maybe you can check yours to see if it is the same? Don’t know if that will help you, but it can’t hurt! Under the “Appearance” tab, I’ve clicked on “widgets” All the stuff that appears in my sidebar is listed under “sidebar” on the right side of that page. If I click the drop-down arrow next to “links” a menu appears that says “select link category” (choose your blogroll here) , “sort by” then there is a series of boxes you can check or uncheck. I have “show link image” and “show link name” checked. At the bottom right of that menu box, there is a blue button that says “save” – be sure to click it. Normally after I’ve done that, any new link I’ve added appears on my blog. I hope that is helpful to you!

  3. Bleh, software!

I don’t use word press, so I have no clue!

I have a blog roll on my blog, but I rarely use it. I find it easier to keep track of the blogs I read with googlereader.

  5. I don’t use wordpress, so don’t know. But whenever I can’t figure out something I google it and voila! some one has asked and answered the same thing, most usually.

  6. Dawn, would it help to make a completely new page for your Blogroll? If so, go into your Dashboard and on your left, click the Pages tab. When that comes up, click Add New. Then you can add your links via cut-and-paste, being sure you click the Link button (the one that looks like a chain link) for each one. When done, Save. Hope that helps!

  7. What Karma said – then way over to the upper left of your screen when you’re in wp-admin are little icons – home, shopping cart, posts – there’s a icon of two links of a chain. Click on that, click on “add new” and that’s where you put the URL, etc. for your blogroll links.

  8. What Karma and Carol said, yep. If you have any more challenges, shoot me (or one of them an email) and we could probably walk you through it. Although I would have to review what I’ve done. Sounds like Karma has the best way of describing it. I am still so glad you’re on WordPress.

    • Diana, I think a couple of times I put the wrong link up on facebook, and that took people to the admin page where you’d need a login….my fault. I hope you can go directly to the blog at dawnkinster.wordpress.com and get in with no password!
