Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Letting summer go

Scott, over at Views Infinitum, has posted a photo challenge – to capture the end of summer.  Or at least what represents the end of summer to each of us.

I’ll be keeping my eyes open to see what I might find.  For now, enjoy some tomatoes from my garden.  Now that it’s mid September the plants have decided to hand over a bit of goodness.

Garden bounty

Seems they always wait until the last minute.  Tomato plants are fickle that way.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  2. It seemed to be a funny year for tomato’s – my plants grew huge but I really didn’t get many tomatoes even though they were covered in flowers. There was plenty of bees around too so am not sure why they didn’t fruit more.

  4. Your tomatoes are such pretty colors! I had to dig mine out last weekend, they were all done. My peppers are still feeding me though.

    • Well that’s a long story. We were out of town Memorial Day and the following week. So I didn’t buy any plants until we came back. Pretty much all the tomatoes that were left were “Black” tomatoes (the purple colored ones)…which are pretty weird but still taste good.

  5. Are those purple tomatoes? They are so pretty, Dawn. We have lots of tomatoes right now, but not enough for another canning session. Do you find time to can with a full time job?

    • I’ve never canned anything. I wanted to learn a few years ago, but a friend’s Mom, whom I always figured would show me how told me she was too old and tired. LOL. So I never learned. We don’t have enough tomatoes to can anyway. I remember pickled peaches my Mom used to make. Man those were good….ahhhhh…..

  6. Those are great-looking tomatoes! At least you planted some – I really lazied out this year and planted. . . nothing. Not. One. Thing. But I cannot say I’m weeping about it.

  7. It did us NO GOOD to plant veggies this year — everything dried up in the drought. We got maybe three tomatoes, total. And one bell pepper, maybe. It was quite pitiful!

  8. Those tomatoes look really pretty and the purples ones are gorgeous. I don’t think we have any purple tomatoes over here at all.

  10. I guess the end of summer for me is apples on the ground, goldenrod along the roadside, and asters in my meadow. Oh, no, that’s only the beginning! It’s hawks migrating. It’s chilly rain. It’s putting away swimsuit and beach towels (used once!) and getting out heavy sweaters and warm jackets. It’s much less traffic! And yes, those last Roma tomatoes from my garden–not many of them, but they are really good. Oh, and then my blackberry jam and jelly project, about one-third accomplished, with all the rest to go….
