What to say, what to say. There’s nothing happening around here, yet I feel a need to share photos with you. Photos of regular life in summer here in Michigan.
The grass is growing, the birds are sucking down food from the feeders, trees are fully leafed out and the afternoon skies are often filled with clouds.
It’s been pretty amazing.
Though we’ve seen lots of storm clouds we’re really short on rain. The yard is already turning brown. Watering the gardens will soon be a daily if not twice a day ritual. We’re not even to July yet.
It’s finally warm enough at night to camp and Katie and I have been on one adventure, but plan on scheduling a few more before the leaves start to turn. It’s still an adventure if it’s scheduled – right?
For now we’re enjoying the air conditioning and watching the oriole feeder right up next to the window. Lots of things besides orioles visit.
They all apparently watch for me to fill the feeder and then rush in to get their share. Or more than their share, depending on their size and boldness.
The flowers have been beautiful so far this season. But now we’re moving into the dry heat of summer so we’ll see. A lot will depend on our watering habits.
Really, so little to say, so much to show you. Guess I need to take you on a more formal walk sometime. Lots of beautiful places to go; what would be your choice? A lake? A woodsy park? The back yard? A bike path?
All good choices, but each will require me to leave my comfy chair. And I can’t do any of them until I get some weeding done.
Still weeding is better than working a job…so I can’t complain.
Katie can, and does, but it’s all in fun.

My potted plants are doing better this year because they don’t have to rely on me. I ran drip line with a sprayer to them, and the sprinkler system very obediently waters them every night.

The hummers are knocking back the nectar very quickly up here. It’s hard to know how many we have, but at least two couples. Who knows, though – they move so quickly!

The rain will not stop here on the Gulf Coast. We are looking at two tropical storms (although I think one petered out already). It has been raining almost non-stop for two weeks now. Everything is so green, but my husband is dreading having to mow the yard.

hi Dawn, i wanted to say hi! it has been a while since i have written and i have been enjoying very much your beautiful photos and words of wisdom.
right now Barry and i are in Winter Park, Colorado relaxing in our trailer, waiting to attend our niece’s wedding this coming weekend in Pine. our trip here has been full of extreme weather: hail, snow, torrential rain, hard winds, hot weather and sometimes perfect weather. the west is in a heat wave and we had planned to spend 6 weeks on this trip, which started on June 5th. after the wedding, i think we will blast home as fast as we can until we get to some shade in Oregon.
we have been eating well on our vegan way here and enjoying visiting with fellow travelers along the way.
i am happy that you and Katie Girl are having a good time in your camping trips. and i love your wordless wednesdays. thank you for sharing your humor and love of life. bess
