I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

I love the puffed up feathers and the perfect smattering of snow.

I was working all afternoon to get a shot of a goldfinch on top of that hook with snow in the background. When I began there was all sorts of snow, blowing sideways, coming down fast…but by the time I got this, the perfect, shot most of the snow had stopped. I really like how it turned out.

How did you get the light to shine on the curved edges of the metal bird feeder? That is soo cool!

I noticed that too, and don’t know where the light source was coming from. This was mid-afternoon, in a snowstorm. But it sure is cool!

We have goldfinches all winter. But I know some do go south, my mom used to have them in Alabama only in winter. I’m sure this guy is double thinking his decision to stay up here.
