Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Smiling in between

In between the Atlanta mass shooting and the Boulder mass shooting I spent a wonderful day wandering in the woods at the Shiawasee Nature Preserve. I was one of only 3 people out there enjoying the acres and acres of wetlands, old dykes, ponds, trees, and birds.

Lots and lots and lots of birds.

I don’t have editing capabilities right now, so no cropping, no lightening of shadows. No enhancements of any kind. I have so many pretty things to show you from this walk.

Later, I promise.

For now, here’s one image straight from the camera, of a tree and it’s eight eagles of assorted ages.

This is as close as I could get to them. I need a longer lens. Still, when is the last time you saw eight eagles enjoying a morning sunbath?

Me either.

So that walk was my smile of the week. Thank you, Trent, for keeping us grounded in smiles while we navigate these times.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. I did enjoy the outcropped photos you posted before. I didn’t comment on that post, and I don’t want an “un-smile” here, but let’s just say I agreed with pretty much everything you said.

Anyway, I’m sure the walk and all of the birds were great smiles!

  2. SO MANY EAGLES — what an awesome shot!!

  3. I’ve never seen eight eagles together ever. Not even in a zoo. I’m glad you got the chance to take a breather from the horrible events we’ve experienced lately. Your walk sounds perfect.

  4. I enjoyed this smile today! Never ever seen eight eagles all on one tree! 🤩

  5. Phew! That was quite a capture. Yes, the news of the mass shootings is terrible. Between that and the pandemic, I don’t want to leave my cozy home. Ever.

    • I know. I went out today to take my husband’s suit to the cleaners, and since I’m not used to driving in town much, I was overwhelmed. I was glad to get back to my cozy little home and don’t really want to go out there again for awhile, but we have to take Katie to the vet tomorrow and I’m getting my 1st shot tomorrow…so I guess I will.

  6. Oh man! What a shot. I wish I was there wandering with you!

  7. oh my, lots of thoughts about everything on this blog post, Dawn. I use a free app called Fotor to edit my photos. It’s not connected to or controlled by wordpress at all and … it’s free. A few years ago when I lived in Tacoma, WA, there was a shooting/death not far from where I lived. And I’ve seen two caucasian men frown at and spit on a Muslim woman who had tripped on a curb and fallen. Why are there so many angry hateful people in the world? I don’t get it. Wow, eight eagles. 🙂

    • Do you edit on your phone? I’ve never used an app on my laptop.

I don’t know why so many people are so filled with hate. I think they may have always been but 45 made it acceptable, according to them anyway, to show it. I think most of it is based in fear. It’s all horrible.

  9. So very envious! Not entirely sure I have ever seen an eagle – we have loads of geese here where I live!!! 🤣
