Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Tiny little surprise

I’ve been seeing a couple of bluebirds flitting around, mostly in the neighbor’s front yard. Tonight I saw one in our front yard while I was walking Katie. No camera. Dog.

You know the usual excuses.

But I smiled that I even saw him and Katie and I continued on our walk.

This evening as the sun was going down I noticed this guy sitting in the back yard on the garden fence and I shot through a filthy window while he posed.

Enjoying the last of the warming sun.

It’s not perfect, but it makes me smile.

Then he hopped up on our rain guage and posed again. Just to be sure I got his good side, I suppose.

I hope she’s catching all this.

He even stared at me for awhile, and didn’t fly off.

You got the shot yet, lady?

In fact, I gave up before he finally flew down into the grass for some tasty morsel. I think I have to figure out how to be outside in the evenings if he’s going to hang around. Images without dirty glass between him and me might be spectacular.

Just the thought makes me smile.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  3. Bluebirds are so beautiful. I think you captured the little fellow very well, but more importantly is the experience, the meeting between the two of you. 🙂

  5. Very nice. he was posing… I think the best bluebird photos I have taken have been shooting from inside a car (windows down, of course).

  7. Aw, he’s so pretty! Even captured through a window — which doesn’t seem that dirty to me — he’s stunning. And yes, he made me smile, too. By the way, I guess if Katie’s out walking, she’s feeling better??

    • I think Katie feels pretty good. Tonight she seemed like the old Katie. But it’s the KD food that is causing angst now. She doesn’t like it. We’re on to version 4 of it which she will eat if I hand feed it to her. We have version 5 coming tomorrow. She still likes to go for walks, and she thinks she likes to eat until she finds out what it is. She got her staples (21 of them!) out today.

    • Katie is doing pretty well. I don’t know how long we have with her. She’s got kidney issues now too (that we didn’t know about till lately) but we’re trying to get her to eat the KD food for that. She’s on a bunch of anti-biotics for 4 more weeks because they found bacteria in the biopsies they did. So we shall see. I’m trying to enjoy each day, and she seems pretty happy just to be with us too.

  10. Not bad for a ‘through the window shot.’ I can’t tell you how many times I have shot through the windshield of a car. I also live by the adage, ‘if it makes me smile.’

  13. Dirty windows are the bane of dog-owning photographers! You are so right–every time I step into the yard, the dog is there with me. I periodically actually wash my windows to make it easier to get shots, but— they get dirty again! What’s with that?
How nice that you got a poser for these shots.
