I sat on the deck the other day, watching the comings and goings. I was thinking about my girl, of course, but also just enjoying a beautiful day.
Here’s one of the many tales from my backyard.

Here’s one of the many tales from my backyard.
I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

Cardinals are so steady. They just sit and eat while chaos reigns around them.

Except when I take out my camera. Then heaven forbid they stay still!

Oh, Dawn–I thought that oriole was pointing with his wing–“He means over there!” Such great shots.

Well, that WOULD have been the right direction for the oriole feeder….

Aw, Katie would be so happy laying on the deck next to you. Hugs to you as you keep working through your thoughts about missing her. Great photos!! And the commentary is delightful. Have you noticed the Cardinals are around more this year? We have a couple of pairs in our yard, and they’re so fun to watch and listen to. The orioles are more skittish and seem to only come around when we put oranges out.

She loved to be out there with us. Sometimes she’d fall asleep with her nose on the bottom railing. She loved to break up all the little sticks into smaller pieces. I miss her. There are sticks on the deck that need breaking up. Guess I’ll have to do it myself.

Aw, such sweet and happy memories. I know what you’re going through. 🤗 It does get easier – but takes some time to get to that point.

That second photo caption is perfect — looks just like what Mr. Cardinal is saying! I have no bird feeders in the yard — I just can’t bring myself to encourage them to visit, then sic Monkey on them. I’ll just enjoy your visitors!

Katie was never interested in the birds. Now…rabbits and especially SQUIRRELS…well….those were worth chasing.
