Change Is Hard

Tales from the backyard

I sat on the deck the other day, watching the comings and goings. I was thinking about my girl, of course, but also just enjoying a beautiful day.

Here’s one of the many tales from my backyard.

Nom, nom, nom. Sure is nice to have the feeder to myself. No pushy starlings or jays around.”

“Hey! You’re a baltimore oriole, you’ve got your OWN feeder over THERE!”

“Now wait just a darn minute! There’s not enough room for all your friends too!”
“Man, what’s the world coming to, mumble, mumble mumble…”

“I’m outta here, I’m not going to listen to this old guy anymore. Plus there’s grape jelly over there!”

“Nom, nom, nom, nom.”

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  7. Aw, Katie would be so happy laying on the deck next to you. Hugs to you as you keep working through your thoughts about missing her. Great photos!! And the commentary is delightful. Have you noticed the Cardinals are around more this year? We have a couple of pairs in our yard, and they’re so fun to watch and listen to. The orioles are more skittish and seem to only come around when we put oranges out.

  8. That second photo caption is perfect — looks just like what Mr. Cardinal is saying! I have no bird feeders in the yard — I just can’t bring myself to encourage them to visit, then sic Monkey on them. I’ll just enjoy your visitors!
