Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Both sides of my lens

I changed the photo at the top of my Facebook page yesterday. It’s a shot taken by a friend of mine while we were out at my favorite park earlier this week.

Many people ask how I get the images of birds eating out of my hand, and this shot tells you the entire story. Basically you just shoot as fast as you can and hope.

This was one of the only times I’ve had a picture of me taking a picture where I knew that I had grabbed shots from the very same moment.

So now you can see both sides of my lens.

I remember hearing birds swarming around my head, and I just kept the shutter clicking, not sure what I’d end up capturing.

In the end Mrs. Red-winged got something to eat, after the rude Mr. got his choice and flew away.

I was rooting for her. Weren’t you?

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  4. Mr Rude…so funny! And look at the woodpecker on that tree. Good thing he didn’t stop by for some food. Ouch. Hurts just thinking about it!

  6. That’s awesome! I love it. I wonder if the continuous mode (aka, sports) mode would work too? Or maybe that’s what you are using? Regardless, it’s so fun to see both sides of your lens! Your friend’s photo of the cardinal is beautiful too!

  8. Yep glad she got her chance, but what gets me is the woodpecker in the background of every shot. I never get good photos of woodpeckers… Interesting to see it from the other side with your friend’s photo.

  13. Golly, you got a red-winged blackbird to eat from your hand?? Dawn, you really ARE a bird-whisperer!! Thanks for showing us how it can be done. Something tells me, the first time I’d feel tiny sticky bird feet on my open palm, I might squeal a bit though!!

  14. What fun! Our birds are not that tame or perhaps we feed them too well! 🙂
