Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

A little bit of everything

Here in Michigan you can expect a little bit of everything with October’s weather. Kind of like an everything bagel.

I know I say it every year, but this year the autumn colors were spectacular. Truly amazing.

And we had lots of sun.

And some snow.

Then more sun.

And a bit of snow. And rain.

It was warmer than normal.

And then really cold.

But the days when the sun shown and the wind died down were truly delightful.

I don’t think we can expect November to be nearly as entertaining.

Gosh, that everything bagel sounds pretty good right about now. Toasted. With cream cheese please.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. What a beautiful sequence of pictures, even if the weather was temperamental. What kind of hawk is that? How lucky you were to get such great shots.

    • I think it’s either a Cooper’s hawk or a Sharp-shinned hawk. It comes by to check out my bird feeders once in awhile. For a few days it was here every day. The day I got these pictures it stayed in that shrub for over an hour, watching the little birds fly by. I think it had already eaten and was just relaxing.

  3. What a great batch of bird pictures! Love the hawk — he looks so regal. We’ve been fighting loads of wind here. In fact, much of our beautiful leaves have prematurely been ripped right off the trees because of it. And we keep going from hot to cold, rain to glorious sunshine. It’s a mixed bag, for sure!

  4. Wow! You guys were all over the place! I am rather shocked that here in Quebec we had no snow as of yet. Last week, Wednesday, to be more precise, I was in shorts and sandals, on Thursday, a jacket!
Today was mid-sixties, so still pretty good.
For us too, the colours were absolutely breathtaking. I wanted to go out to a park and capture some birds but ended up doing this, that and the other…

  5. Your fall scenes are gorgeous. It has been a nice fall, that’s for sure. I wish it would last longer. I’m hoping that November doesn’t shock us with the extreme cold blasts predicted. Is that a friendly hawk that visits often? It sure was watching you. All of your bird photos are beautiful and colorful!

    • We had SUCH a beautiful fall this year! I’m worried about the winter too, not sure if I’m worried it will be extra cold, or worried it will be extra warm. The hawk is not friendly, but he does visit here pretty frequently. I don’t see chipmunks around any more…so I guess I’m his lunch buffet of choice for the moment. As long as I don’t find chipmunk or bird parts I am pretty OK.

      • I agree, and hope for the same too.
We have hawks like that and our small critters are strangely gone too. The hawks tend to grab and fly away to eat their lunches. Probably why you see it visit and then leave.
The hawk poses for very intriguing photos.
