Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

You’ve seen it all before

I had a chance visit my favorite park this week, a late afternoon decision.

You’ve seen images like this before. I’ve taken hundreds of images just like these.

But of course I took the camera.

And of course there were birds — that was the point, is almost always the point when I walk these trails.

And luckily the birds were hungry.

Very, very hungry.

And of course we had a very good time. Because, really, how could we not?

I think the birds had a good time too.

For the most part anyway.

So I’m hoping you don’t mind seeing images like this again. Because I never tire of taking them.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. Mind? Why no, actually I quite love it! 🙂 It is amazing how they come and take the food right out of your hand. What kind of bird is the one in the last photo with reddish below its wings?

  2. So, you provide the food, and the birds provide the entertainment. That must have been the ‘thank you’ dance. How beautiful is that?!

    • It’s always so much fun. We met a lovely couple out there that was having a bit of trouble getting the birds to come down. We shared our seed and they had all sorts of birds, and we had a long talk about many things while the birds were having their supper.

  5. Dawn, I never mind seeing your birds … especially the ones eating from your hand! How you can get such good photos balancing skittery birds and birdseed in one hand and a camera in the other baffles me completely.

  7. Hi, Dawn,
I am with you…there never can be too many pictures of your bird park visits….or barns…or night skies…. Thank you for sharing. 😊

The second to the last photo made me chuckle! That little guy looked pretty heated – I imagine that he was telling the other visitor that your buffet was all for him – no trespassing! 😂

Do you all expect many trick or treaters tonight? It is raining here so tonight may be a bust. I usually get less than a dozen kids. 🎃

    • Yes, the little chickadee was laying claim to ALL the food in the hand. They are brazen little birds.

It wasn’t raining here, though it was not so far from us. We don’t get many if any kids on Halloween. We’ve lived here 30 years and I can count on the fingers of one hand how many children have come to the door over the years. We got zero again this year….we had one small bag of candy just in case…and we donated it to the band concert I played last night, where we had trick or treat for the kids in the audience.

  13. I’ve never fed a bird in hand. Not even my own chickens. The only ones who let me get up close to stare at them are the hummingbirds.
