Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Pretty special day

Saturday began with this, early in the morning while walking Penny in the backyard.

Then we were gifted an evening listening to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

The concert was pretty spectacular, as is Orchestra Hall.

And when we got home, around 11:30 that night, the moon was full and glowing orange from the smoke of distant forest fires.

I had a hard time focusing the camera, both on the bluebird and on the moon.

But it was still a pretty special day.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  6. A special day indeed. And even your multi-image moon is a special photo. Lovely!

    • That was my first attempt at shooting the moon. Everything on the camera was still on automatic, and it wanted 30 seconds of shutter time, which I didn’t realize till I had pushed the shutter button and I didn’t want to wait 30 seconds, I was holding the camera…so I deliberately moved it and turned it off. Turned out to be my favorite shot of the moon. Put the tripod up and could not for the life of me get a crisp focus. Partly the tripod was the problem as the lens was heavy and the tripod is light and the camera kept swinging lower. Frustrating, but fun all at once. I think I need to get a heavier tripod.

  8. What a wonderful day, indeed! That is a beautiful hall! Yeah, that moon was hard to focus for me, too! I kinda like the wonky shot 😉

  11. What a lovely venue for a concert — that ceiling is amazing! I saw the moon, too, but didn’t get anything near as pretty a picture as you did. Bet Penny was happy not to have to pose this time!

    • Penny is SOOOOO not a poser. This morning she decided to eat the peony that I was trying to get her to sit next to. That seems to be her normal response when asked to sit next to anything. Check to see if it tastes good.

  12. what a wonderful capture of the bluebird! The smoke here is bad in NJ, the haze too. t has made the sun such a radiant orange color- so frightening tho – there are fires burning here in NJ too.

    • We had a fire in northern lower Michigan that has just been contained…but they say most of our haze is from fires in Quebec because of an odd wind coming from that direction. Normally our wind comes from the south west, not the north east. Figures, right?

  13. That’s a great photo of the bluebird. I’m envious of your moon photos, I try, but NEVER get a good shot unless it is early morning as the sun comes up. We’ve had many orange sunrises due to the fires. I heard about the Michigan fires, glad they are contained. Hopefully, Canada will get them contained and stopped soon. I bet listening to the music was a nice way to forget about the fires and enjoy the beauty of the place and the music. That’s a pretty awesome day indeed!
