I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

I got this image yesterday. I was so excited. The woodpecker had been there awhile and then the hummer showed up and wasn’t pleased and buzzed around for awhile until it just decided to eat on the other side of the feeder.

How can you not be excited! That is such a wonderful capture. And I love that the hummingbird decided to share!

What a fun photo! Did the little woodpecker (a downy?) take a drink?

Oh yes, the downy was enjoying the hummingbird food a lot. He comes every day. He has a long tongue so apparently doesn’t have any problem getting a snack.

Never knew that a woodpecker would drink from a hummingbird feeder.

Nice pic, Dawn! I’ve been amazed this year at how many different birds hit the hummingbird feeders! The orioles figured out how to pop the little silicone flowers off, so they can drink more readily.
But, just everyone was on them at one time or another. Fun summer’s bird watching!
Way to catch that in a moment!

Yes, the young orioles are all over the hummingbird feeder. Other than that it’s this downy woodpecker.

I’m not sure it’s possible to get along with everyone. There are too many cranky people who insist, “My way or the highway.” Still, I’m glad the birds at least are showing us the way!

This is a fun shot Dawn. And people call them “bird brains”! So, if they can exist together at the feeder, so can we humans who think we are so sophisticated next to our feathered friends.

Me too. I saw her buzzing around the feeder, not happy about the woodpecker being there. I was trying to get that, but it was hard because she was moving so fast. Then when she landed, my camera was already focused on them…I only got one shot like this and then she was off again.

I don’t know that we’re all meant to get along. If that was the case, we’d be doing it, right? Man is destructive. How to get along with that? You shouldn’t.

I think we could each do more to get along with each other. The alternative is a nonstarter for me.
