Hey everybody, it’s Penny here! I’m interrupting mom’s travel and photography posts to tell you about me! Cause I know you’ve been missing me. Speaking of missing, mom was missing for almost an entire week! No one got my permission for her to go gallivanting but I guess my vote doesn’t count. Anyway, she was gone from last Saturday to this past Friday afternoon.

And on Saturday and Sunday morning she had registered me for an obedience trial! So when she got home Friday mom and I got right into the ‘working’ mode. I know what the word work means. It means treats! Special, extra good treats! So we went to the trial Saturday morning. Mom said she had zero expectations, given we had N-Q’d last time and she had been gone the week before this trial.

But guess what? I did great! I did all 5 exercises pretty perfectly. I sat when I was supposed to sit, I paid attention to mom and I stayed when I was supposed to stay. I ended up with 198 points out of 200, and first place! I guess, though, I have to admit that I was the only one in my class, so as long as I finished everything I was destined to get first place! Mom said she was very proud of me.

Then on Sunday we went back to the trial to do it again. Mom was a little worried because I generally don’t like to do stuff more than once, but she thought maybe given it was a day apart it would be ok. And again, I was doing great. Sitting when I was supposed to sit. Paying attention to my mom and heeling like a good girl. I let the guy judge pat me on the head during the sit for exam without protest.

Then came the stay where I’m supposed to sit in the middle and watch mom walk around the perimeter of the ring and then back to me. And guess what? I got bored so I laid down. Mom almost made it around the room before I gave up, but I think she needs to learn to walk faster.
Oops. That disqualified us right there. We still finished everything, and my recall was beautiful. The judge and mom were very sad. I, however, just wanted to get out of the ring so I could get my jackpot. I know what my priorities are!

Anyway. I’m now 1 for 3 in my Beginner Novice Obedience trials. Mom says we’ll keep trying. I only need two more legs to get my title! LOL No rush mom, I’ll get there! On my schedule, not yours.
Talk later, your Beginner Novice Wantabe, Penny.

Mom says there’s a LOT more to learn, Ms. Eliza. I don’t know. Maybe I’d rather do something fun like agility or scentwork. All this waiting and sitting and heeling and stuff is BORING.

I sure do, Ms. Lois. Mama gets big ideas and forgets to let me have my say. Which, if you ask me, is just rude of her. She’s lucky I did the first run almost perfectly.

You have your priorities Penny and let your mom know about them! 🙂 Congrats for coming in first in your class, even if you were the only one in class … let’s not sweat the details, shall we? I hope you got lots of cheese and treats for your efforts and I see you have a red leash now instead of a purple one.

Well, mom can’t find my purple one. Plus I wear a red collar, so when she was looking for the purple one she found a couple red ones and figured good enough. But she doesn’t like the red leash as much because when I run and jerk it, it sort of cuts into her fingers, where the purple one was round and didn’t do that. I suppose I could not run and pull on it…there’s a thought…not likely I’ll do that though.

Ahh, I thought you got another reward to go with your treats. Well, yes, you could NOT run and pull Mom, but it’s more fun to have her running after you breathlessly to catch up – I get it cuz I once was young too. 🙂

Good girl Penny !!!!! Sounds like your mom still needs to practice her part some more. You, obviously, did everything perfectly, and will just have to be patient with her. For now, show off that blue ribbon. You are the best!

Seriously Ms. Sara, mom needs to pay more attention. I keep telling her that. She was so surprised when I decided to lay down and wait for her to finish her meandering walk around the ring. I mean, how much does she think I will put up with anyway?

Good advice, Ms. Karma. I’ll try to remember that when I want to stop participating with mom on her wild chase for the ribbons again.

Congrats, Penny — we think you did just great!! The Monk is certainly impressed — not that he’d ever let his mom leave him in the middle of a ring while she pranced around the perimeter. Nope, he’s a herding dog — and walking right up next to mama’s leg is his preferred spot!! Hope the treats were yummy!

Well, it’s hard, Ms. Debbie, to do all that stuff with NO TREATS! And mom can’t talk to me either, so sometimes I think I’m doing something wrong and that worries me and then my little brain shuts down. Or so mom says. Personally I think my brain is just fine, it’s just registering that there’s no payment for the work involved so I see no reason to participate.
