Change Is Hard

…but change is certain.

Hey!

Penny here.

Me hanging with my dad.

Mom’s super busy and she’s not paying attention to me (par for the course lately) so I figured I’d check in with you guys.

In front of one of my gardens. Mom makes me do this every. single. morning.

Life is going along like normal around here which is to say boring. Mom says boring can be a good thing. She says I should be glad both she and daddy are home with me all the time now.

Sometimes mom and I hang out on the porch.

I suppose.

Mom tried to get me to like the pool. I did not.

She says I’m going back to school in a week or so and I better remember all the things I know and not goof off this year. She’s says we’re both gonna learn some obedience.

I’d rather spend time at Katie’s park. Or any park.

Huh. It’s about time mom learned some obedience. And I stand my ground and repeat — there better be lots of treats. And the good kind too, not just kibble from my supper. She doesn’t think I know she does that. I’m a sheltie. I know everything.

Mom and me practicing stuff at Katie’s park one evening.

Anyway, mom’s been taking me to parks and stuff. I’m not totally ignored.

At one of my parks!

But geeze…I feel like I need a real adventure!

After my Friday evening group walk at another of my parks!

Your suggestions are truly appreciated.

I’ll just catch a snooze while I wait for your ideas.

Your bored tour guide, Penny.

I'm a long time banker having worked in banks since the age of 17. I took a break when I turned 50 and went back to school. I graduated right when the economy took a turn for the worst and after a year of library work found myself unemployed. I was lucky that my previous bank employer wanted me back. So here I am again, a long time banker. Change is hard.

  1. A-w-w, Pretty Penny! Hope you go on a real adventure soon. Maybe on one that involves other dogs, especially other Shelties.

  2. Oh, dear. You mean your mom feeds you food-kibble and calls it “treats,” too? I Monkey thought my mom was the only one trying to get away with such shenanigans! We need to better train these moms, don’t we, Katie? As for adventures, it’s so blasted HOT here that we’ve been hanging indoors with the A/C on. Mom says the backyard grass is cooler on my feeties than the pavement. Paws crossed for Fall weather real soon … and a return to my walkies!

  3. Penny–it is so good to see you, again! It’s been one long hot summer, hasn’t it? Maybe once things start to cool off, you and mom can get back to more adventurous activities. And real treats–not the ‘kibble supper treats.’ Good thing you are a smart girl and notice these things!

    • I’m pretty sure I’ll get the good treats when we start school again, Ms. Lois. But she’s been sort of stingy with treats at school. We’re starting a brand new class this time, so maybe more treats will be a requirement. We’ll see.

  4. You are lookin’ good Penny – I’ve missed you here, but we have seen a lot of birds, deer, sky shots, even the presidents from Mom while you were hanging out with Dad. Walks are nice, especially when the weather was cooler like last week, but this week you’ll enjoy the A/C more than a walk I’m thinking, especially with all that beautiful fur. Yes, no fair giving kibble for snacks – demand cheese or no poses for Mom!

  7. Hey Penny, this is Chewy! I had the most amazing adventure recently. My parents and I went out for ice cream, and the lady at the counter gave me my own bowl of ice cream. For FREE, because I’m soooo cute! My parents had to pay for theirs. It was the best day ever. I also like going to outdoor restaurants, breweries and wineries – they also LOVE me and I get to eat chicken and pizza. A few weeks ago, my parents brought me to my park and stopped and bought a pizza to eat at a wooden table. So I got to go to my park AND eat pizza bones at the same time.

I feel like we both like food, so those are my ideas for you! I’m older, so I basically know how to get whatever I want, but you should too, because you’re a smart, beautiful, good girl. I know you are smart, because you refused to go in a pool with WATER.

    • Hi Chewy! So nice to talk to another sheltie! Hey! What the heck is ICE CREAM? I don’t think I’ve ever had that. Is it something I should demand? Can I make my contract state ice cream is required for photo images? What do you think? And I HATE water. I don’t like to get my feet wet in a PUDDLE much less a pool. What was my mom thinking? Oh…I forget, I DO like to run and bite water from the hose..but that’s not the same as pool water. Not at all.

  8. Penny, you are too cute! And very photogenic. Love your tilt of the head for a photo. Very flattering! Wish I could offer suggestions. At least you get out on a leash. Lizzie? Nope!

    • Hi there! I love to tilt my head cause that usually gets me a treat. Mom just has to mention a few of my favorite things and I’ll tilt my head all day! Mom says she got really sad when Katie lost her hearing because she couldn’t get head tilts from her after that. So she really likes my head tilts too.

  9. Penny I LOL’d at “I’m a Sheltie, I know EVERYTHING!” My Mom tries that kibble stunt too! Do they REALLY think they will fool us? BTW you look beautiful as ever! Love, Levi
